I shall take this to include the human race, even though much of its behaviour through out history, has been pretty stupid, and not calculated to aid the survival of the species. Two questions I shall discuss are, 'What is the probability of life existing else where in the universe?' and, 'How may life develop in the Rating: 5

Stephen Hawking's Public Lecture on "Life in the Universe"
Howdy beachguy,
Thanx for the article,I read it all the way through..I couldn't help but notice, that Hawking makes no allusions or allowances, for the presence of God.
What do you think of Intelligent Design theory ?
I'm of the opinion, that there are aliens amongst us now,and that there could be time travelers here,as well. I also think that there is a way to git around the speed of light limitation, not only through wormholes, but having the ability or capability,to make a wormhole through space-time continuum. If Hawking is discounting the spiritual plane, then he's ignoring a whole field of energy physics. It was recently proven, for instance,in the area of Quantum Mechanics, that one particle can act on another,at any distance, effecting a change in the other particle. The quantum affect, appears to operate outside of normal space-time continuum and the speed of light limit..I would be interested in Hawking's thoughts about that.
Have a good one ....

Stephen Hawking's Public Lecture on "Life in the Universe"
No! No, no, no! That's wrong, wrong, wrong!!!! That logical explination of the origin of life is wrong!! Some dude, living somewhere just past the sky sort of, I don't really know about that either, decided one day, or something, that he would like, make the Universe.. it only took him a week, 'cause like, he could have done it in a day, but he had better things to do, or something.. but he made it look like the universe has been around for billions of years and he made it look like life evolved, instead of just appearing, ya know?
And he's wrong about that other thing that i'm not even going to bother reading because I know i'm right because people told me i'm right... human life isn't ever going to develop to anything near what he said, even though I don't know what he said, because I didn't read it, because it's rubbish, 'cause the dude who made us, he's, like, pissed, and he's gonna kill us soon. Like tomorrow. And if not tomorrow then the next day.
Go to hell, Mr Hawking! And take your liberal-fascist-socialist-communist ideas with you!

Torog, thanks for making me go back and read it, analytically. I'm gonna do that.
His worm hole theory, he said, only exists in Science Fiction, but it is possible.
When I read it, the spiritual realm left my thoughts, because I know I'm listening to the smartest man on Earth. This paragraph almost shows that he has an evolutionist/creationist theory.
This has meant that we have entered a new phase of evolution. At first, evolution proceeded by natural selection, from random mutations. This Darwinian phase, lasted about three and a half billion years, and produced us, beings who developed language, to exchange information. But in the last ten thousand years or so, we have been in what might be called, an external transmission phase. In this, the internal record of information, handed down to succeeding generations in DNA, has not changed significantly. But the external record, in books, and other long lasting forms of storage, has grown enormously. Some people would use the term, evolution, only for the internally transmitted genetic material, and would object to it being applied to information handed down externally. But I think that is too narrow a view. We are more than just our genes. We may be no stronger, or inherently more intelligent, than our cave man ancestors. But what distinguishes us from them, is the knowledge that we have accumulated over the last ten thousand years, and particularly, over the last three hundred. I think it is legitimate to take a broader view, and include externally transmitted information, as well as DNA, in the evolution of the human race.

But we are now entering a new phase, of what might be called, self designed evolution, in which we will be able to change and improve our DNA. There is a project now on, to map the entire sequence of human DNA. It will cost a few billion dollars, but that is chicken feed, for a project of this importance. Once we have red the book of life, we will start writing in corrections.
This is our immediate future.
This is what I spoke of before, stop spending money on "Terrorism" and start spending it on research for Marijuana. The Jamaicans' genes are programmed differently than most of the rest of "Our" genes, because Marijuana is so inherent in their genes. That's why they can fish at night.

'beachguy in thongs' did you see the movie of his life story, it is worth watching.
Would you prefer a brilliant mind with a disabiled body or a stupid mind with a fully functional body?
