Does anyone know why one of the more popular nicknames for marijuana is pot? Personally I think its a stupid name and I hate it but it's the most widely used by non-smokers.

I don't know, but it's funny how I can't stand the word, yet I call people potheads. Well actually I use stoner more, nevermind.

yea all non-smokers that i know say pot, yet i hate the word, i will almost never use it. it doesnt make sence, pots kinda a harsh word to call a beautiful herb. but thats just me.

I'm not sure where the term pot came from, but the term Marijuana came from the Mexican-Spanish word for cheap tobacco. Bhang is dried leaves of uncultivated cannabis plants, or female plants with the resin removed. Ganja is the top of the female plant without the resin removed. Hashish is the dried resin from the top of the female plant. So there's those words defined.

i tottally agree with the fact that 'pot' is a relatively non-weed-smoker word. when i hear someone say pot, it just sounds like an authoritile term.

^ yea true, for me its usually a way to tell if they know what theyre talkin about or not, if someones like yea man lets go smoke some pot, or if the kids like i got a dime of ganja wana hit it? its easy to tell who knows what theyre talking about, in most cases.

I always thought of "pot" as a newscaster thing to say. I even tell people who use it not to. ;x Bud's my favorite.

don't quote me on this. but i heard this one time POT is short for POTENT LIKE DRO is short for HYDRO? MAYBE? I dont know but sounds good to me.
