alkbud.... when you are germinating, you don't need the light.. but once it sprouts... you will need to bring the light down to wihin 1 foot. keep the soil moist until the plant has established some deep roots.. MOIST, not muddy).. after 7-14 days, you should bring the light to within 1 inch of your plant and keep a light fan blowing between the top of your plants and the light...

for the germination i ain't gots da lights on. gots the seeds on moist paper towels in a dark and humid environment. but what about using more than 12hr light? any effect?
