acid headband
In heard that Jimi Hendrix used to soak his headband in acid so he'd trip while he was playing, but i've also read stuff (fairly reliable, like his dad's autobiography) that he wasn't hardcore into drugs (nothing much more than weed and acid, no coke or needles) and that he never was high when he was playin. Is this just his dad trying to tell himself his son wasn't a big drugger, or is that headband thing a myth??

the headband this in a myth. that would require a fair amount of acid to actuall work, and i doubt jimi had that kind of cash. I believe he wasn't too into drugs, he doesn't seem like it, he seems like the type of dude who only talks when hes not sober. For some reason people like that get considered permafried

actually Hendrix put some blotter acid in his headband before Woodstock and planned it so that he would be peaking on acid hours later in the middle of his performance.. he did not do this on a regular basis, but there is truth to the whole lsd headband stories.

Soaking the headband would work, but you would waste sooooo much acid. Blotter acid would be absorbed through the skin during perspiration, etc.

Devon got it for Jimi, a lot. Near the end of his life, he went to Maui, where he and a whole slew of others, smoked weed and tripped for a month straight. I know a lot about him, and he was scared of hard-drugs. People always slipped him stuff, thinking that he would want to get high. Someone slipped him something and then he came on stage and said, "I'm sorry, but we can't get it together tonight." This was for a benefit for the Black Panthers in early 1970. He went to a party the night he died and all the witnesses there said he had a big bag of weed.

The important thing for people to remember is Jimi's music is Jimi, not the drugs. Too many people put too much emphasis on the drugs a musician does instead of what they are actually doing themselves. Jimi may have done drugs, and they may have brought him ideas and inspiration at times, but he was able to execute them and make the music he made because he was a genius, not because he was tripping balls.

They don't even help... playing in a drug haze is no way to play, IMO. Acid and shit can inspire though, and give you ideas. Weed is the only thing good for plying.

Hendrix used to jam with other famous musicians, such as Jim Morrison and Johnney Winter, at Steve Paul's club "The Scene" AKA "Steve Paul's Scene" in New York City.
I once read that his barbituate use there caused him to have to be carried out on some nights.

"These are late-night jam sessions recorded at Steve Paul's Scene Club (a notorious musicians' hangout) in New York City in 1968. Hendrix was a frequent guest; here he's backed by bluesman Johnny Winter and members of his band, as well as drummer Buddy Miles and (occasionally) an extremely messed-up Jim Morrison on harmonica and vocals. The sound is variable but listenable throughout, and the performances are surprisingly together given the probable level of substance abuse by the principals."
