I wouldn't bet on that. Maybe MOST of the Mexican, and other, wasn't so great, but the Panama Red, Acapulco Golds, some Jamaicans, and other strains would be fun to have again. There was something about the high that was just "happier", unless my memory is playing tricks on me.
Hash, too, was plentiful.

Sometimes U.S. soldiers would bring back stuff from Vietnam - which was extremely powerful then, and probably still is.

By the early 70's, there were many fine imports such as African Black Gunjee (aka "black whack"), Thai Stick, REALLY strong hash from Nepal, Tibet and other places, and of course, the "sweet", affordable Colombian Gold and Reds. The Columbian often sold for about 500/lb., 50-60/oz. on the street until the late 70's. Even the cheaper, commercial Colombian was good everyday weed.

I first had various strains of Hawaiian in the early 80's, which were very good, with a good mix of sativa/indica.

Eventually, the domestic stuff became the only thing easily available, and the imported products dwindled out
