BRUTAL CLAY!!!

im preparing my grow site this fall, before the next growng season, so im digging holes where im going to plant my seeds......and i reach clay and i cant penetrate it ....doesnt matter how far i dig down.....so waht can i do about the clay?.......or does it matter if clay is there or not?......also how far do the roots of the plants have to go down?

anyone wanna answer? also when growing outdoors i dont have to fig a hole and mix the groubd soil with organic soil do i?

I planted 3 trees last year in clay... They were avocado trees... they hate clay!! SO I dug these hole that were 4 feet deep and 3 feet wide... It was a mother fu-ker digging this holes... but I got this stuff at the nursery that conditions clay ... helps break it down.. I mixed that stuff with soil and perlite... The trees are doing AWESOME....

although it has only been a year.. they have doubled in size.. all the books I have read say they shuold have died..

anyway, I would did deep.. Take some CREATINE and drink a bunch of coffee, take your shirt off and DIG like a mad man.... crank up the ACDC, BACH and west side connection... you'll have your hole in a day!!!

Ya know.. I was always a firm believer that MJ roots needed to go deep.. along with tomatoe plants...: )

But have you seen TRANOBLES grow? I know it is not outside and his plants are small.. but I think he said he only give them 6 inches of depth... 6 inches.... that is insane... and then again, so are his plants!!!

If it were me I would dig deep... especially if you are going to use this spot for years to come...

who deep aproxmently would u dig.....like how many feet??....also when the hole is done should i just fill it up with the soild i dug out...not the clay.....and mix it with some organic soil?

like i said, if you can go 3-4 feet , I think you should.. there is this stuff they sell at nurseries in huge BAGS... it is "soil conditioner" and it will even say on the bag that it is for mixing with clay...

BUT!!!! you don't want to mix this stuff with clay..... you dig a hole and the clay you dig out, you LEAVE OUT!! : )

You fill the hole with soil, chicken shit, and this conditioner, and if you are goiing to be around to water.. I would use a lot of perlite as well..

you won't be digging soil out... correct? you will be digging clay... correct?

im digging some holes 2 but ina a few weeks late november im going to cover the holes with plywood to get the good soil there and not washed away by rain and leaves and chit like that

ok well i meant i dig about a foot and that is all soil....but after that foot is dug the rest is clay.........also when i dig a hole if i dig a hole 1 metre wide and 1 metre long how many seeds could i plant in that space....like that will grow to be big plants?
