Most dutch people speak english, so no need for the hassle! lol

But if you'd like to learn it and get respect from the people there for learning their language that'd be cool.
Also it would be cool to learn another language on top of the one(s) you can soeak now

i dunno, if you stay in amsterdam or another popular place then you could get away with it, but if you're planning to live/work there for a while you'd need to learn forsure

Yeah, I'm hopefully going to Amsterdam sometime next year. I'm definitely going to take advantage of the fact that a lot of them speak English, but I'm also going to learn the essentials of Dutch, because I don't want to be THAT American visiting Europe, asking everybody if they speak English and where the nearest McDonald's is.

Just to point out a double standard, we Americans (especially those who belong to the "Speak English or Leave" school of thought) would consider it extremely rude if someone from, say, Bulgaria came to our country and expected everybody to speak his language. However, a lot of Americans depend on the rationale of "Well, there's got to be SOMEBODY who speaks English" in planning their trips overseas.

hey man.i feel left out.my area around me and my house is amaterdam close enough if you put your mind to it.and no this is not a invite!!!..I am just saying that all that walk to school and store and long walks always have to smell a skunk of sometime at my house. i remember when my exes daughter use to tell me storys about how kids would talk about the long hair hippies house and how it always smells like weed when she was at school.hey hemp is ready to carve.im working on them now.remember it only lasts as long as you care for it,put it up and away sooner or later and use for a convo piece as it will just plane burn out(hahapun intended),cuz it is hemp and will burn, but still learn more than one lingo,it helps one way or another, even if it only helps your mind, learning a new lingo is great, comprenday.i crumba.eholelay,me pinchee piosso
