Salvia: Standarized v.s. Non-Standarized?
Standardized means it has a measured, absolute amount of Salvinorum-A per gram. Non-standardized means they take approximately 10X the amount of Salvia Divinorum they're going to end up with (ie: 10 grams of leaves to end up with 1 gram of 'extract') but the actual amount of the active chemical, Salvinorum A, is not measured.. it's just estimated. With non-standardized extracts, the actual strength can vary because the absolute amount of Salvinorum A varies based on leaf quality and extraction methods and efficiency. Again, with standardized, there is that SET and measured amount of Salvinorum A per gram so they know it's exactly 10X (or whatever the X rating) as powerful.
Be careful with Salvia extracts. They pack a huge punch. Make sure you use a HOT lighter for your pipe and hold the flame over the extract so it's drawn down onto the extract as you inhale or the effects will be weak or nonexistant. Salvinorum A vaporizes at a temperature higher than the leaves themselves burn so just seeing burning extract doesn't mean the active chemical is being released. This is the biggest mistake most make... they roll it into joints or don't get it hot enough or use other methods and it just doesn't work for them so they dismiss it as useless.
It works. It's strong. Respect it and be prepared for it along with knowing how to use it properly and it'll be intense.
