Increase File size limits!
If the staff would actually read and consider my, and others, requests I might. From what I observe, there seems to be just a general disreguard towards anyones suggestions posted here by the staff. I don't mean to be offensive or sound bitchy to anyone, but this quite aggrevating. How many times have people posted requesting new smilies, etc. only to be ignored?
Drugman Joe Reviewed by Drugman Joe on . Increase File size limits! I'm sure you have all had awesome avatars, cool pictures to upload, etc when you got the stupid error message: File size too large blahblahblah. Administrators of the forum: this is completely lame! The user priveledges on these forums are limited enough, why limit the avatar file size limit to the absurdly low limit it is currently set at? Another thing that I find quite moronic, no offence to anyone, is the moderation of new members. Do you have any idea how many members you loose Rating: 5

Firstly, most all 100x100 .JPGs should easily compress down (save), even at the best quality, to under 25 KB.
Secondly, 25 KB is quite sufficient for a 100x100 .GIF image - even for highly animated .GIFs.
Take a look at our advertisers page - most all the 100x100 and even the larger 468x60 banners are under 25 KB.

Much can be done in 25 KB - key is to be efficient when creating animated .GIFs; use of a decent optimizer, such as Animation Shop in Paint Shop Pro 5+.
The reason for the file size limit is so pages don't take forever to load; encourages folks to be efficient when making their avatars.
Thank you for your comments.

Yeah, i noted that, ghost.
@Ron
I understand your concern for 56k users/loading times. Thanks for looking out for those stuck in the dark ages of internet.

Enough of that though, I see I'm not going to convince anyone.
One thing I would like to convince people of, though, is a new set of preferably marijuana related smilies. This would be very easy to do, one could just modify the default ones or download a new set, as I am sure there has to be one somewhere.
Anyway yeah...

25KB should be more than enough for a JPG file, even if only compressed slightly. Heck even using a lossLESS algorithm like LZH (as used in many .gifs) would still easily get a 100x100 JPG file under 25 KB.
Problem is that Photoshop by default includes a lot of extra stuff into saved files - for jpegs: be sure that image preview (a smaller version of the jpeg) isn't being saved in the file, and also be sure embedded information such as profiles are turned off - they generally aren't needed for images intended for the web.
Many consumer, and even free open-source, programs optimize better than Photoshop does ... give Paint Shop Pro or similar a try.
More smilies are coming - it's on my list of things to do.

If you don't like it, get the fuck out
. Aside from that, the members such as myself (who have not yet converted to Cafe Members) should just be stoked that we can use these boards for free, considering the countless number of hours we all spend on the site. I agree, it's not a great fact that the limit is twenty five kb... but It's not anything I worry about given the site is free to use and roam
.
