    12/12 All the way??

My question would be this. If we have the correct spectrum for the specific phase of growth drummed into our heads, and we agree that light towards the red spectrum (hps) is actually required...for flowering...and that light towards the blue spectrum (mh) is actually required...for vegging...why would a person think that a red spectrum light would grow a plant efficiently in it's vegetative phase? I would think that a plant grown with hps from start to finish would be about 14 feet tall with nodes about 12" apart.

But as latewood suggested, try it and show us what it looks like.
Marc Benson Reviewed by Marc Benson on . 12/12 All the way?? What do you think the results would be if I grow plants (Sativa Dominant example. Haze/Durban Poison) under 12/12 photoperiod? I mean from seedling to finish. I think it would grow normally under this photoperiod because in the tropics that is the way the sun works. Has anyone tried this? Rating: 5

    Thanx for the support!

Torog, I am concerned about the stretching but i can't lower the 1000watt any lower it will get too hot. Currently it's about 1m away from the plants. I would much rather have stretched plants than dead plants (know what imean ) I'll still try to tweek it a little more though, or i might have to put up some supports/stakes later on.
I do have a fan blowing them during the light hours, i usually leave it off during the dark periods.

budman: feminized seeds are a good idea, but i'm not goin to put any more money into this. I'm on a budget.

marc: i understand about the hps vs mh, but i've seen posts with people using hps for vegging too. I've done it in my previous grows, but they started to stretch a little....

everyone else, i'll try to keep you posted, but i'm a working man

Get yor lights closer!!! Your plants are stretching dangerously too far.Put a fan inbetween the top of the plant and the light and that should take care of the heat. And I couldnt help but notice the Mirical Grow bag.If you are using that, when you decide to fert use a very small amount cause most of the MG soil has slow release ferts in it. Ive lost my first 2 grows over that shit before I even knew what was going on. Good luck and happy growing!!!

it will take longer because your vegetative cycle is being drawn out. MJ needs a minimum of 16-18 hours of light to make vegetative growth ideal. On 12/12 from seed your plant will take much longer to mature, as the light cycle you're using.. is mainly for flowering.

The purpose of 12/12 is to simulate the end of the season, the days getting shorter. This tells the plant it's time to seed.. or make bud. buds would turn to seed if they were pollenated.

So on 12/12 your plant will grow slowly, automatically flower.. and only grow so big.

bob: thnx for the inputs. we'll se what happens

    okay.....day 3

BTW. do they look like they're growing alright? I think they are a little slow on growth.

    Howdy yokotiyoshi,

I have a friend, that's been growing since the 70's,and he would call what you got-salad greens..because of the stretch you have going on,he plucks em right away. I think that what you need to do,is to git some floro's to start yer plants with, that way,you can put the light almost at the tops and with a fan going, you'll be amazed at the difference. In fact, your seedlings will be on their third node, and still be shorter than what you have..when they git established well, then you can kick in the mh light and hopefully, you will have some better ventilation for your hid light by then. Gittin yer seedlings short and stout, with short internodal lengths,is critical for your plant's entire life..they will be able to bear the weight of heavy flowers later on.

    Good Luck man !

    Have a good one !
