Hooked: Illegal Drugs and How They Got That Way Marijuana

I don't know how many of you guys have the History Channel, but I just saw a very interesting documentary about our favorite plant.

They're going to be re-airing the episode tonight @ 1am Eastern Time... so that should be about 9pm California time. I hope you get to watch it.

Here's a copy/paste of the description from the THC's web site (no no no... that's THC as in The History Channel... what'd you think? THC as in THC? !):

    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
    Tune In:
    Saturday, October 8 @ 8pm ET/PT

In a series investigating the history of drug use, we begin our trip tracing the rise of marijuana and synthetic amphetamines. Marijuana, from the Indian hemp plant, has been used worldwide as a source of rope, cloth, and paper; its medicinal qualities were first documented 4,000 years ago in China. But it's best known as the drug of choice of the 1960s. During WWII, US troops were given an estimated 200 million amphetamines to fight drowsiness and battle fatigue, and they're still used to fight depression.

It was very interesting... Congress, those mother fuckers passed a "Marijuana Tax Law"... right? Ok, so check this... You needed "stamps" to trade, transport and/or sell marijuana. So they weren't illegalizing the weed. They just wanted you to pay some taxes for the business you did with weed. Well, the SoBs didn't print out any stamps!!!
So, basically, you coudn't do nothing with MaryJane because you would never get a hold of those stamps! Can you believe that shit?!

I'm going to try and buy a book on the history of the weed... not on growing (I've got enough info here @ Cannabis.com), but on the history. Very interested now. I'm also visiting NORML ( www.norml.org ).

I'm sorry I didn't post this on the "Legal" section of the message boards, but this is the coolest place on these boards... and you guys will enjoy this thread more than the teenage turds over @ 'Sexuality'. LoL

Moderators: If you feel it's better to move this thread, no problem. Where ever it'll be at home

Looking forward to comments on the subject (if any, I know you guys are a bunch of tomato-growing, google-picture-searching, wanna-be growers LoL LoL !!!) ~ducks from emerging flames~

    Till soon,

It was my understanding that tax stamps were printed. They required people to purchase a liscense to sell weed, which would then allow you buy tax stamps. However at this time it was already illegal. The purpose of the tax stamps was to cfharge dealers with tax evasion as well as dealing. Many of the tax stamps are very collectible now. Tax stamps were also printed for other illegal drugs too.

That may have happened after the lthing you were talking about though.

Ron, Mr. Cann.com himself, bought some at an auction not too long ago and showed them off on the boards, if I'm not mistaken.

Back in the 1930's everyone thought the federal government had no right to regulate what individuals ingested (state and local governments could though). This is why the nationwide Prohibition of alcohol was a Costitutional Amendment.

So the sneaky bastards in Congress, cheered on by powerful folks with vested interests such as William Randolph Hearst (This is confirmed in HOOKED by what Harry Anslinger [1st head of Bureau of Narcotics appointed by Andrew Mellon, financial associate of the DuPonts] told his biographer. Hearst met with Anslinger to encourage a federal law, and bragged that he personally wrote all the articles in his papers about the marijuana menace!) and the DuPonts, passed the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 as a way of legally undermining the Constitution of the United States.

The thing was, to get a stamp you had to have the marijuana, but it was illegal to have the marijuana without a stamp.
    Cute, huh?

However, in an ironic twist of fate, everyone was wrong about everything.
In 1970, I believe, they decided that magically, though the Constitution hadn't changed in this respect, the federal government COULD make laws regulating what individuals ingested, and Congress established the DEA.
This was right after the Supreme Court decided that the Marijuana Tax Act WAS unconstitutional.

Oh yeah, and as much as I watch The History Channel, I can't believe I missed the THC!
