If you light a match, and look very closley you will see that the fire doesn't ever touch the match.. and if you look at any fire, you will notice that fire doesn't actually burn "things" - they teach this in the fire academy.. Fire can only burn GAS..

objects, things get so hot that they put off a gas.. it is this gas that fire burns..

It's not some mystery gas that burns. It's oxygen. Oxygen is a highly flammable gas by itself. That's why when there's no more oxygen, a fire will be stuffed out.
