    4 HPS 400w, or 20 double flouros ?

I am upgrading from a dresser 3'x3', to a basement setup room 8'x7' what do you all think will produce the most in flower(will not be using room for veg) and will use the least electricity. will 4 hps 400w, or 20 48" double 40 what tubes? I prefer to have slightly less bud production in order to save a lot on power the math ive done made about 128,000 lumens for the flouros and about, 144,000 lumens for the 4 HPS 400w, for about the same use in electric. any thoughts?

Well your floros will save you a whole lot more money as the wattage and temps are lower.

But rememebr your value cannot be pressed upon power consumption alone. When you are talking eficiency, you simply need to determine what will yeild the most in terms of Grams per square.

Your HPS will generate far more grams per square that the floros....

I guess you just need to match that against your floros.

1600W of HPS is not that much juice in reality........if you down size the other lights in your house to CFL's you will offset much of that 1600W over a grow season.

20 40W tubes is 800W....where as the 1600 is from the HPS....

Yes your yeild will at least double with the 1600 HPS lights....thereby saving you money from a different direction.

Also, working 4 light is a hell of a lot easier than 20. I would suggest you get 3 600Watt instead of 4 400Watt, I would think that is more than enough for that space, less expensive also

    Most excellent advice there SeedKing...

Or, get two Hortilux Bulbs and one HPS with the true HPS centered.

sorry bout that the flouros are double tubes at 40w each tube 2 on each x 20 fixtures. so i think thats 1600w i think i might go the way of the HPS i will have to get the walls built to see how they will fit. in what pattern to get the most use of the lights. anybody tried the zig-zag pattern of lighting? heard about in high times "best of issue"2005 maybe? turning on half the lights for two hours, then the other half and so on in a zig-zag so the plants are always getting light during the 12 hours just at times its much more intense supposed to cut down on energy costs a lot, but takes about 2 more weeks in flower.. thanks
