If in flower stage, the plants need RED LIGHT WAVES and UV-B rays.
You can only get this with HPS for the red, and MH for the UV-B rays.
It is this combo in flower that helps buds grow fat and big. It is at least one of the major factors.
If HPS is not in the picture, where will the lower Kelvins come from?
Regular cheap ass light bulbs....warm....will deliver red waves. By themselves, it is a crap shoot as to the end result....
Without the intensity of HPS lighting, you need all the light you can get which means keeping the CFL AND the additions of several...the more the merrier...red wave generating light bulbs.
You can go as high as 150W regular light bulbs....you can use several....they will generate heat so air flow is critical to the success of the plan.

masterg,
Sorry but I hate, really hate, seeing this crap go on â??cause itâ??s hard enough to juggle budgeting priorities - where you are going to spend limited upstart cash - on all the things that can and do make a difference on a grow.
Not that it matters but have been using internet BBBâ??s since 1989.
Goes with the territory that certain types of personalities can take on some strange permutations of their own given the newfound anonymity of internet access. These flawed characters invariably try to become someone larger than they are, or can be, or ever will be in real life.
Others adhere to the original spirit of the internet and simply derive (get) great satsifaction from helping others. That was the original internet model for public access. Sharing. Openly. Non-commercially. BTW, â??non-commerciallyâ?ť is kinduva clue here.
For the others, itâ??s more of a playground. Games of oneupmanship, bullying, picking on the kid who could, might, more naturally become a threat to their insecure pipe dreams of leadership. And then of course there is the jealousy these people can hold for someone else who takes the time to consider details, many details, in growing that would be infinite details, and god forbid has better communication skils.
The easiest targets or scapegoats are those of us who will and do pay attention to detail and try to relate to the individual circumstances of others. There actually are no dumb questions. But there are such things as dumb answers, those being the answers you get from people who are in it primarily for the sake of ego gratification. Cheesy incomplete answers that are not sensitive to the questionerâ??s situation.
Clever one liners or simply trying to pull someone else down, or . It ainâ??t for purposes of arriving at the truth. Itâ??s more about - well - I dunno really. Never have completely understood small minds.
And if I may - I mean - hey - I've seen this too - vicsious debates and two days later they're all kissed and made up as if they were two woodnymphs, two herms in the night, all the more empowered to give the appearance of authority. Speaking for myself I ain't buyin' into the show, boys.
You're friggin pot growers, not the friggin so called leaders of Western Civilization.
Give us more details if you want but don't give half baked answers you know leave us with 15 more questions than we had, then lie around like snakes in the grass waiting to pounce on someone else's advice.
Unbelievable.
sorry, m
