Virginia Beach would lose the title of being a "Navy" town upon Oceana's closure.

Personally, I've been demolished by the Navy, the most recent time being by a Chevy Venture Van trying to cross from the Food-Lion parking lot to the Farm Fresh Parking lot as I was driving down the 1/4 mile stretch from Corporate Landing to General Booth Blvd, in a Chevy Cavalier. He went across 4 west-bound lanes, and struck me in the second (from his side) east-bound lane.

The point is that I've been a driver, and have had duties requiring driving, all around Virginia Beach, from Mini Italia, on Newtown Rd., to D's Choices (now Papa John's), on General Booth Blvd, and I'm certain that Navy recruits (college-aged) drive around like they own the place.

11 years ago, I don't know who hit me, but it was three nineteen-year-olds, and I was crossing General Booth to go to the Navy Base, and that accident nearly ended my life.

There is the fact that Virginia Beach would be a paradise if it wasn't for the extremely loud jet-noise that disrupts wildlife. I have a beautiful view and see many birds scramble as a jet passes. I live off of Laskin. All our precious puppies are going deaf. I have a perfect example. A registered user by the name of somebodysomeone has my cat for an avatar and she's turning her head. She's turning her head because she was disrupted by jet-noise. She'll be up on a table near my window and jump down, four feet, before I even hear a jet. And then it comes crashing over.

I remember when my nephew was two years old and became frightened as a jet passed over Lago Mar. My brother said, "He was scared. He's not used to planes flying so low over here."

Think about the pets with super-hearing. Think about the birds. Did anybody research birds' ears before they allowed these flying pieces of metal?

I'm not even gonna mention the fact that my brand new TV's speaker is blown because I've had to turn up the volume because of a jet.

The largest employer in Virginia has to give way to a new Virginia Beach. A Virginia Beach where tourists will never be bothered with jet noise, nor the birds, nor the dogs, nor the home-owner/renter who wants to open his/her windows because the air is so beautiful, and moist, here. It was paradise here before anyone ever even thought of residing here, swamp or not.
