Yer deffo something not right there!!!
I`ve got a 400watt Sylvania growlux HPS bulb and it takes 30 seconds or so before it blinds you!!
Either your bulb or your Ballast is faulty!!!

I just see the tube inside slightly neon blue and the orange stuff (i think the sodium) sparlking on either top or bottom of the bulb.. its 400w's.. my ballast says 400w s type lamps only... am i screwed or what could be the problem?
