It's an only in New York story. A woman was given a ticket for sitting on a park bench because she doesn't have children.

The Rivington Playground on Manhattan's East Side has a small sign at the entrance that says adults are prohibited unless they are accompanied by a child. Forty-seven-year-old Sandra Catena says she didn't see the sign when she sat down to wait for an arts festival to start. Two New York City police officers asked her if she was with a child. When she said no, they gave her a ticket that could bring a one thousand dollar fine and 90 days in jail.

The city parks department says the rule is designed to keep pedophiles out of city parks, but a parks spokesman told the Daily News that the department hoped police would use some common sense when enforcing the rule.

The spokesman told the paper that ticketing a woman in the park in the middle of the day is not the way you want to enforce the rule.

I've seen those signs in other parks in NYC, but I've never witnessed anyone actually being bothered by the police.

Rivington Street is not exactly "Manhattan's East Side". It is the LOWER East Side, which always was a tough area. This is NOT the "East Village" - it's near that section, but "different". It was, and may still be, considered by many (including some of the biggest entertainment stars in the world) the neighborhood for the best junk in the City (and I don't mean furniture). I took some classes in a training center there in the 1980's and remember it well. I minded my own business and went to my school, but one day a car sped by me really fast, almost hitting me, and turned down Allen St., Eldridge Street, and/or possibly Avenue A. A police car was racing to catch them, and I pointed in the direction that the car went. A guy in the street threatened me for doing this. You never know what's really going on in a neighborhood like that. The rules are different. The only reason I never got mugged, or worse, down there was because the bad guys thought, a) I was a cop, or, b) it wasnâ??t worth the risk that bothering me could bring on some kind of heat. Itâ??s probably not as bad today, but I swore at the time that the entire U.S. army could not persuade the underground culture that thrived there to ever leave. I donâ??t know why that woman was arrested, but I can tell that thereâ??s more to this story than is being reported.

i live in oreon now and down in the brandon area there is 3 cops to every play area because theres so many and thats where they hang out and there are as many woman pedophile perverts as there is men so i agree if you do not have children sit yoyur ass someone else next time they should put her in jail

I do NOT think that people without children should be banned from the public parks. There are probably MORE perverts that are parents, than childfee people. I don't like kids, don't have/never wanted any, and touching them is something I would never, ever want to do. I have a right to go to the park without children, and bringing a kid does not automatically make you safe and "normal". This is highly discriminatory.

In the case of the woman in New York, she probably mouthed off to the cops or something, and they retaliated.

why don't we just kill her the next time she even thinks about sitting on a bench? the nerve of that lady, in America, sitting on a bench...

she should have to give up her house and all of her belongings until she realizes how free she is.
