Finally took the plunge... and I need help. :P

Okay, I finally decided to start growing tonight. It's 6:30 AM right now and I couldn't go to sleep cause I kept thinking about growing. So, I took my 8 seeds from my last quarter of mids (going to get some dank seeds from a friend tomorrow) and wrapped them in a wet (not soaking ) paper towel, put them in a ziploc container, and put them away to sprout (hopefully).

After they hopefully sprout, I'm planning on moving them to solo cups and then putting them in my closet under a flourescent light to let them vegetate. When they get to be about 6" tall I'm going to pick between 1-3 of the best looking ones and transplant them to 3 gallon pots.

Now, here's my problem. I'm doing this as a stealth operation since I know my roommate wouldn't approve, so I'm growing in my closet. The space I have set aside is 2' x 2' x 8' tall. I've been reading a lot of the threads and also some guides on other sites but I can't figure out if I have to build a grow box or if just sitting the pots down in the closet will be fine. The walls of my closet are white.

Also, how long does the vegetation phase take and when should I switch my lighting out? What type of light (and any other supplies) would I need to buy just to support 1-3 plants (probably 1 for my first time). I'm also on a tight budget.

And will the power used by these lights use up a noticeable amount of power? I'm trying to figure out how much my power bill is going to go up since we split the bills.

Thanks so much guys, and wish me luck.

I would suggest buying a 250w HPS light&ballast from ebay.ca for the cheapest you can get, usually under a 100$.

    I would also suggest buying a 150w MH light&ballast for under 100$ on ebay.ca

Use the MH light to veg your girl and the HPS to flower that whore.

If you're going to use only one HID bulb (MH or HPS) at a time I suggest getting a conversion bulb (MH that fits in HPS ballast or vice versa) and just switch the bulbs when needed. Buying a whole seperate ballast and bulb when you're going to only be using one at a time would be a waste of money. Also, if you have a decent amount of money to get started I'd suggest making a DWC Bubbler hydro system (very easy).

    Simply buy the following things:

5 Gallon Bucket. $3 or so
    5inch net pot. under $1
rockwool (only thing off the top of my head for seedlight sprouting). Prolly like $3-5
a dual outlet fish air pump. $12
2 Air stones (the little attachment for the pump to make bubbles really small). $2-5
    and probably nutes.

Doesn't cost too much and it would GREATLY increase you're yield and probably vegging time (not sure).

Also I would suggest making 2 as apposed to one simply because of the fact that you can get a male then have wasted all your time.

    Goodluck.

Umm, make sure the floro is really close to the plant. (like 1 inch with a fan blowing on it). If it's a few inches already I'm hoping that it didn't stretch.

As for the sexing, people usually get preflowers around days 25-30 (i never got any myself) or within the first week or so of being put into flowering mode.

18/6 is what most people use for veg and 12/12 is for budding.

Little tip tho. Be very patient in letting it veg. The longer you veg the better.

    Goodluck.
