It's Patient-Doctor confidentiality. I think you have it mixed up with code of silence. I know this is an old thread but I am willing to bet the OP was on Accutane for acne, making him probably under 18. If you are under 18 there are times when the doctor can tell the parents confidential info.

Someone posted in poor confusing English that they have to tell you what they are testing for. This is correct. If they draw blood or ask for urine, they have to have consent for drug testing.

Does Patient-Doctor confidentiality hold up. Yes in most cases because violating this is a huge HIPPA violation as well as other violations against healthcare providers.
