Drinking San Pedro Juice
Ok, I found a recipe that sounded like it would be good where you blender it up with lemon juice and a little water and then let it sit and seperate and you drink the liquid that seperates. The guy said it wasn't that bitter. Well I just tasted it and OMG, there's noway I can drink it. It's the bitterest crap I've ever tasted, even worse than calea.
Does anyone know any tricks to get rid of or reduce the extreme bitterness? Damn...25 bucks down the drain...Odd Ball Reviewed by Odd Ball on . the best way is to reduce the liquid as much as possible and let it all slide down at once. it's nasty no matter what, you just have to stomach it.

Yea I figured. I'd boil it down but I read that weakens it (and I'm afraid it already won't be strong enough) and I think it would probably taste even worse. I'm gonna just go ahead and force myself to drink it, shot by shot. I'm not giving up! I sure hope I get effects from it after the money I spent and the trouble I'm going through!

if you would have cooked the san pedro catus with the water itself on a low simmer for a few hours, it would be much stronger, because the extraction would be much more successful. All traditional brews of san pedro involve a heating step, to get the good stuff out of the cactus. Mescaline is one of the more heat stable alkaloids, so it can actually withstand more heat than say psilocybin, which can be made into tea using hot water without much effect on potency, so putting san pedro on a low simmer isn't a problem.

The monks would prepare this by boiling slices of cactus in water for long periods of time adding various admixtures such as Brugmansia suaveolens and Coleus blumei. In more modern times the curandero is more likely to employ San Pedro by directly consuming the dried flesh of Trichocereus peruvianus and often in a lemon juice mixture

Well I drank about half the mixture I think, wasn't really keeping track. I got the mildest experience, no perceptual distortions, just a somewhat dreamier state, easily falling into a trance like daze, full of profound thoughts, delving into my real issues. All good therapeutic stuff really, I feel as though I had many therapy sessions in one day.
I couldn't stomache the stuff anymore after about halfway but decided to simmer what was left down and I was surprised at how much I reduced it. I may try drinking it tomorrow. It smells sort of like apple cinnamon...with a little bit of cooked cactus..maybe it's just my imagination. I bet it doesn't taste like it though! I'll have to do my damndest to not taste it.
I wonder if taking it dried and powdered in capsules would be effective. Unfortunately, I can't find a vendor that sells it dried anymore.
