I have a 600w HPS on 12 plants and none of them seem to be makin progress, I know the light isnt too far away from the plants because there is no strachin....just wonderin if there are any others factors that could be afectin slow grow

HPS does not produce the ideal blue and green light waves needed....

But there are several other factors needed to know:

Temps
Water pH
Strain
Age
Height of plants
# of nodes

Also pics would be great.

So do you think he needs to go Metal Halide and use the HPS for Flowering!

No because realistically, if the plants arent getting the proper light, they SHOULD be stretching....

The thing is its not a properly controlled grow room, the plants are about 2 and a half inches....about 1 week old.....only got one set of leaves after the seedling leaves.......the ph is fine and the tempertures are 75f -80f.......mixture is 1 pat sand, 1 pat vermulite, 2 pats organic oil mixture......the plants look healthy enough but it is turnin a slightly lighter green towards the tips of the leaves......

I have done experiments with soil mixtures, and let me tell you, it makes a huge difference in the growth of a plant. i currently have one plant that is in a similar mixture of soil that you have and i swear it looks like a lowrider. it is not though. from my experirence you should have almost 40% peat moss to get alot of growth. finially different people swear by different growing methods, and you can use whatever you want. As for my experiment i have came to the conclusion that if the soil is to compact and doesnt retain water well then growing will be stunted and it will take alot longer to get the desired growth.

There is probably nothing wrong with them at all then.

Based upon your description and over all setup, just sounds like business as normal. Some plants grow faster than others....the HPS doesnt help but it sounds like you need to let them just get growing at their own rate....

The leafs turning green to the tips is a sign of the wrong light spectrum but it will adjust and be fine.
