This is what I do, sounds simple but it works every time. Get a small container, I use an old margarine tub. Piece of kitchen towel/paper in the bottom, seeds laid out separately, piece of kitchen towel/paper on top. Mix a very weak solution of fert, quarter of recommended strength. Dribble the fert over paper towels so it's moist all over. Close lid, put somewhere dark and warm, I use the hot water boiler cupboard. Leave it alone for two days. When you open it again your seeds will have sprouted. If they haven't yet, stick it back in the cupboard for another day.

You get the occassional duff seed but it's rare.

    peace

also, your chances of getting females on just one seed is only around 50 percent, you are best off germinating and planting a few so atleast sum will end up to be female

why not just plant direct into the soil/pot they'll be growing in?

    here's how i plant seeds...

    1. get the highest quality potting soil available (read the ingrediants...check ph!)
    2. fill 1gal pots with soil and soak with warm water (80f+)
    3. make hole 1/2-1" deep (or the depth of the 1st knuckle of pointer finger)
    4. place seed in and cover lightly...
    5. wait...4-7 days and you'll have sprouts

do not water until bottom dries out but keep surface moist (as needed only) with misters to keep crust from forming..."hard watering" will disturb the delicate developing roots and affect growth.
disturbing the roots of any seedling can cause harm or death. this method allows the plant to be in one container through most, if not all of its veg cycle, or at least until preflowers show. by then the plant is rootbound and ready for transplant into larger living quarters...

The process of germination can be completed anywhere from 24hrs to 10 days. I use the paper towel method. U just have to wait for the white little root to come out.
