How much does a jar of Activated Carbon go for? Money wise?

I was @ the petshop today, and a big jar (like 1 gallon) cost about $40!

Is this the normal price?

Hey SK I have a plan for a homemade carbon scrubber that a lot of people says works great as I assume that's why you were looking for the carbon? If you like I can post the directions here or post the link that shows just how to build it.
