IMO, if you want to get the job done more quickly, add some warmth (to no more than 90 degrees F) to whichever method you use.
I've had good luck with damp to soggy paper towels wrapped inside a douple layer wrap of tinfoil.
Do the wrapping carefully so you can unwrap and begin checking in as little as an 18 hour overnight when placed on top of your furnace boiler. Water heater might be okay too. But if those are extremely warm to the touch put the tinfoil seed packet into a cereal bowl instead of laying it there flat.
