Consensual Sex
(This should probably be posted in the Sexuality forum, I know, but i'd prefer a discussion on the subject as opposed to a load of kids giggling because I used the word sex in the title.)
One thing that gets to me, among many, is how people view sex these days. Sex, on the whole (no pun intended) is seen as something secret, something that's sordid and dirty and should be hidden from public eyes. Even though we all do it (or want to) alot of us are still extremely reserved when it comes to sex.
One of the main reasons sex is in many ways a taboo topic is because of religion, Christianity in particular. Theories state that before Christianity had the place in society that it holds today, the main religions were Mother Nature worshipping religions. Sex was considered the ultimate act of Nature, and the only way for a man and woman to communicate with God. Sex was seen as something holy, or spiritual, and females were considered more attuned to Nature and man's spirituality than males. To demonise these religions Christianity portrayed sex as something horrible, something to be kept secret and hidden away from polite society. Of course Christianity is now the majority religion in many countries of the world, and even people who are not Christian still feel the effects of it in society.
In my opinion sex is the most Natural, beautiful act in Nature. It can also be considered an act of love, the ultimate union between man and woman. So why do people actually believe there is something wrong with it? Children are warned abouth having sex, and in many places it is illegal to have sex up until the ages of 16, 18, or even 21. But why is this? Surely something so natural, so essential for the survival of our race should not, could not be regulated by our governments?
Alot of people believe that these restrictions protect young adults or even children from sexual predators. I disagree. I don't think a rapist or paedophile, just about to attack a child, is going to stop and say "Oh, hang on, but they're only 15!" and then walk away.... Quite the contrary. What makes a paedophile a paedophile is the fact that they perfom these acts on people under the age limit of sexual consent.
So what are these restrictions for? I know they can get a 16 year old guy in trouble for having sex with a 16 year old girl. They can get an 18 year old guy in trouble for having sex with a 17 year old girl. But what good do they do? We all know that many parents abuse their children, it's a sad fact of life. Alot of these sick bastards are caught and punished, but does restricting the age of sexual consent change this in any way? Surely common sense dictates when somebody is doing something wrong; we all have morals, we don't need the government to have morals for us. I imagine we could all tell when somebody is abusing a person as opposed to engaging in a consensual activity.
One thing these restrictions do is to further the feeling that sex is something wrong. I believe that the government should not be able to tell a person when they are ready to have sex; sexual maturity varies from person to person, and in some cases a 14 year old girl could be sexually mature, where as an 18 year old guy might not. If a sexually mature 14 year old wants to have sex then why should anybody, except her parents, be able or allowed to stop her? The same applies for a 14 year old guy. It really pisses me off that governments have taken it upon themselves to regulate and dictate every aspect of our lives... That goes for sex, drugs, anything.
Anyway, i'm rambling now so i'm gonna stop, because i've lost the flow of what I was saying at the beginning.. lol.. this is what having no drugs can do to you, kids!!!...
I'm probably gonna get alot of negative feedback, and it'll probably be something like "you sick fuck, so you think a 50 year old man should be allowed to have sex with a 12 year old?", but please, think about what you say before you say it.

Just a quick observation Ghost. A girl of 14 may be sexually mature, yet she is emotionally and mentally still 14. I know many that married at that age, (young women) I got married and had a child at 16. Believe me, NO teenage girl that young is ready for the responsability and emotional baggage that goes along with it all. That said, it is one thing for a young couple to develope together and invest in a solid relationship but, when an adult takes advantage of the niavette (in this case I mean lack of life experience) of a young person for nothing more than sexual gratification, it does cause damage to the child. It can emotionally screw them up if nothing else. I'm a Mom, I'm a Granny and I have been there. (The views expressed are not necesarrily the views of the live audience).

Think about this.....
When a young girl gets pregnant (because they are to irresponsible to use protection)......most of the time the guy shrugs his shoulders and takes off....leaving a fifteen or sixteen year old girl with a baby, no money, and no education..
Then that girls parents have to take care of both children.....then when she grows up a little she still has no education....and usually they end up living a life of poverty and social welfare programs.
Gost wait until you have children......(I mean it).....wait until you have a beautiful little girl of your own.....then watch her grow up......then you may begin to tell me about weather it's a good law or not.

Yeah thats some pretty good points you bring up. The christiantiy has truths although in the 1500's ( or around then) people were very religous and feared their christian god, yet girls betweent he age of 9-14 were often married off to men over the age of 20. So perhaps it wasn't so much christianity as it was changing views on society that made sex "wrong".
I'd also stongly disagree with "we all have mroals so why do we need the goverment to regualte them for us". Quite simply we may all have morals but some are likely to be very very different so laws are created to punish peole who,for e.g, find murder morally acceptable.

Consensual Sex
I lost my virginity at 12 and i was not ready. If i had any religious moral back then i might have stoped myself but i was living in the modern world where sex was everywhere from the TV, the internet, even my own home. I believe that sex should be between 2 people that love eachother and intend to spend the rest of their lives together. If a young girl and a young boy want to have sex because they are both feeling prossie and no one is there to stop them they will eventually have sex. The girl could have gotten pregnant but dident so she has sex again, only this time she does get pregnant. Whats she gunna do? Will she marry the boy? Most likely no, and the boy would have to work to pay child support to help raise the child. Then neither the girl or boy would be having sex again for a long time. Sucks to be them.

I dont think the US is as sexually repressed as Ghostoker would make it seem. Yes I believe Christianity has made the topic of sex taboo, but at the same we're oversexed as well. Sex is "cool", it can sell everything and anything. Everyone buys porn freely. Oral sex isnt even considered sex anymore and teenage pregnancies are rising, and although theoretically speaking the majority of people are Christian, not many people I know of feel ashamed of having sex or talking about sex, even in high school. Prostitution has been been legalized in the Netherlands and in Nevada. Girls want to be sexy when they're ten and when they hit 14 they start starving themselves. People are getting every imaginable kind of plastic surgery in the world. Id say people in Europe, Canada, and US are some of the most sexually preoccupied people in the world.

Hah, law. As if any fourteen year olds about to have sex suddenly stop and think "HOLD IT THIS IS ILLEGAL WE CAN'T". You're saying that teens this young arn't responsible enough to decide to have sex or realize the consequences that could result from having unprotected sex. You assume however that they're responsible enough to think of the legal consequences that would result if the act were illegal.
I've known plenty of stupid girls who have made stupid decisions, but most of them were still primarily concerned with getting pregnant from having sex as opposed to breaking the law.
Then comes the issue of what age you should be until you can 'responsibly' decide to have sex. Is it 13, 14, 16, 18 or is there no definitive age at all? To determine whether you are responsible enough to have sex would mean you take the precautions to protect yourself against pregnancy or STDs. But plenty of adults have unprotected, irresponsible sex as well, should it be illegal for them too?
