Sept. 23 (Bloomberg) -- A man has been arrested under the Terrorism Act at northwest England's Manchester International Airport, following a struggle with officers, the police said.

Police were called to the airport at 8:30 a.m. local time following reports that a man had been seen acting suspiciously in the so-called apron area where an aircraft was parked, close to stand 26, Greater Manchester Police said in an e-mailed statement.

A Taser or stun gun was used to detain the man and a U.K. Army bomb disposal unit has been called to examine a suspicious package that was found on the apron, according to the statement.

A controlled explosion has been carried out on the runway where a black suitcase was lying in the middle of the taxi way, the British Broadcasting Corp reported.

Parts of Terminal One and Two have been closed while officers deal with the incident, a spokeswoman for the airport said, adding that flights are taking off with some delay and that people are being encouraged to report to the airport.

Terminal Three, the domestic terminal, hasn't been affected, the spokeswoman said. The National Air Traffic Services said in an e-mailed statement that some precautionary restrictions have been imposed on flights entering Manchester airspace
