How's your plants getting along? I find the boring stages of growing my biggest enemy for my plants(well, except theives). seems when I should just let them be, I am forever having to do something. Such as raise move or lower the lightr , fix the method of watering( wind up watering by hand practically anyway lol)tie up or down a limb, or something. Wind up with more busted branches or floods or plants being knocked over than if I just left them alone.
" well I knocked that plant over 15 times and its still alive, put it in flowering, any plant that strong needs to be flowered !!" LMAO damn thing has battle scars on every water leaf , lol impatient at times I guess. thats what is cool about your method, its relaxed.
well don't mean to highjack the thread, just your fun to talk to and my plants get a break when I am posting lol
better scoot, thanks Mand,

Hello Bill
Believe me love I know what guys are like, when it comes to fiddiling around with things
I have four older brothers and they were always getting some new hobby and buying loads of stuff for it, then falling out with it .....having spent a fortune on it (they still do
).
One of them got into radio hamming ? or whatever it is ?. Anyway he spent thousands on tranformers and whatnot ?, He fell out with it, I told him it would have been cheaper to just ring people on the phone
Like I always say "boys and their toys".
Anywaymy present crop is really doing quite ok, I've added a couple of pics for you. They are not quite three weeks old but the weathers getting cooler, summer has finished here so they will slow down a little over the next few months.
As for damaging them you're not on you're own, I've quite often accidentally broken the odd stem or branchwell they get so tightly packed in there if I want to get one from the back, usually a male to get rid of it. Well I sometimes struggle and manage to disturb those at the front.
I always like to give them the best compost, then you can basiclly forget them, I just water them once a day. My grandad used to have an allotment for growing vegatables and a few flowers, he used to win shows with his produce, and he always used horse muck and made his own compost.
I used to spend hours there when I was little, so with a bit of luck maybe a little of his growing ability has rubbed off on to me
Bye for now, love mand xxx

your plants are looking healthy, Mand, do you have a length of time that you compost your compost pile. My mom always had a compost pile in the back yard too. did wonders for her garden as well.
Ever try re-vegging or know anything about it?
Been trying to get some pics but one of my digital cameras my computer won't recognize and the other is in need of recharging and I don't have the proper charger for it. did manage to get some pics of some of my wood stuff awhile back so I know it works ok.
About ready to harvest the one survivor have her in 24 hour dark right now , .... can hardly wait, still have to cure but it will be fun trimming the buds for now.
let ya know how it goes
c'ya later

Hello Bill
I'm quite pleased with there progress. It is my favourite variety for growing (Skunk#1).
I think I may re-pot them very soon
No I don't have any time period for the compost to rot down, it's been there for quite a few years now and I just add things to the top of it and dig out from underneath the pile. When I re-pot thats a job I do when the compost is needed, I riddle it out very well to get rid of the lumps and bugs, but I have to have someone help me by picking out the worms..............I can't stand to touch them even with gloves on
Erm re-vegging, to be truthfull I have no idea what that isso I'm not much help there
I say Bill, whats do you do the 24 hour darkness for love ? I seem to recall hearing that before but I don't know why ?
take care, love mand xxx

From what I gather the plants produce resin during the dark period and harvest should take place right at the end of dark period/start of light period. Some growers sometimes put the plants in a 48 hour dark period just prior to harvest, so I didn't see any reason not to give it a try. Can't see how it could do any harm and it might just give the buds a lil resin boost.
going to see what I can find out about re-vegging so got some searching and reading to do .
c'ya later on

Hello Bill
I've remembered now what I heard about the dark period, it was after the plants had been cut, something about hanging them whole in total darkness for a few days before "sorting" them for drying.
I have no idea what difference that would make to be honest ?.
I'm affraid I haven't heard of putting them in total darkness before harvesting ethier
I always keep the light on right up to cutting.
I'm sure there are lots of other thoughts and ideas on this subject, It's always good to read them
I think my main fault with harvesting is that I cut too soon. Due to lack of patience on my part.
I was a little forced on the last crop though, there was a little seeding on a couple of plants and then there was a touch of bud rot on one.
However bud rot shouldn't be any problem on this next grow because of the time of year. Also this variety usually does quite well and I've never had any seeding on it (yet)
It's intresting to hear and prehaps try some of the different methods

Never enough knowledge. I have over-loaded my brain there is so much to take in , lol.
I can certainly relate to patience being thin towards the end I had trimmed some buds off on plant before the plants were ripped and I had harvested them too early. (maybe in this particular case I should have harvested them all early LOL). I think judging when it's time to harvest is best done by observing the trichomes. Only thing about that is knowing how to read them properly and that I suppose comes with experience. I have had advice ranging from watching until the third set of pistils start to turn brown to counting the nimber of days to looking for the trichomes to be about 20% amber. I have to go with reading the trichomes if for no other reason because it is Zandors advice and don't think ya can go wrong taken his advice. May take some time to be able to read them correctly but once you are able to then I will be able to judge harvest time accurately. Just what I think is best IMO. But still one never totally eliminates that temptation of picking too soon , lol.
I am really struggling with when to harvest the one plant that is left of any possible worthwhile yield. I think it is ready but I have the uncertainty of inexperience.
AH HAH Bwahahahaha..... I think I am going to brave the inevidable and whack it right now!!!( or am I being swept into the evil clutches of impatience???)whack itor not
(well at the very least, one should have fun with this)whack it???? or no????
yes no yes no yes no...........

Hi,
I just wanted to stop in and share my experience on the (imagine darth vader's breathing sound in the background) DARK phase
Plants, of course, gain their power during the light cycle hence the sun (or the lamps in a indoor system) and use up this power to "grow" in the dark cycle. That's why for some people a 24/0 setup doesn't seem to make much sense, because the plant itself doesn't have time to fully regenerate and "relax" (one reason, why i always vegged on 18/6, next to the power bill)
Same, of course, can be translated into the blooming phase: 12/12 is not only important to trick the plants into flowering, but the power that is gained during the light cycle will be processed in the dark cycle, making the buds/resin to grow (instead of the whole plant using it's power to "stretch" for the light, at least that's the theory, even with blueish lights with 6500 kelvin colortemperature during the vegging phase to make them grow "bushy" instead of "stretchy").
So leaving the plants in complete darkness before they're harvested makes the plants use all their power for the resin production (that's why you also should harvest shortly before a new light cycle.. or at the end of a dark cycle)
unfortunately i don't have any comparison pictures on my pc anymore, but we once tested this by growing white widow and leaving half of the plants in complete darkness for 5 days prior to harvest, and the difference was like night and day..
the plants that have been harvested regularly were (of course) nice with a lot of resin, but those that have been into 5 days of darkness prior to harvest were COMPLETELY white, and fully explained the name "white widow".. resin EVERYWHERE.. i have been growing myself for a lot of years and i haven NEVER seen such plants before and if someone would have told me, that this makes such a difference i would have NEVER believed this person, but i saw this with my own eyes.. after this experience i never missed out on the dark phase anymore
the watering during this period was simple, since you shouldn't add any nutrients within the last weeks anymore anyhow (you don't want your buds to taste chemical, so two weeks prior to harvest we always flushed them and used plain water afterwards) so you don't need to open the door to the chamber/closet/whereever you're growin in at all (if you have an external rez as we used to have)

Thanks for the information it helped to solidify my using a dark period before harvest and provided further understanding of the concept and I will adjust my before harvest dark period accordingly.
Can you give me your input on how you determine when your going to harvest like three weeks prior to them being harvested right up to the few days of dark before harvest? Be interested in your methods?
Any input you might have on re-vegging would be cool too, if you find the time?
Don't want to over do your good nature but anything you might add would be appreciated.
good information , thank you,
Bill
