Yeah just back up anything important. Then pop in your windows xp disk reboot make sure you boot into the cd (if it doesn't check you BIOS settings) and the do a full reformate then the rest it self explanitory do all your updates get anti virus anti spyware and maybe don't run your computer with full administrator rights all the time oo that always helps protect the system a little bit more. Good Luck.

restart computer with Windows XP CD in drive. before boot screen flashes, tap DELETE numerous times to enter your BIOS settings.
Change BIOS settings to "boot from CD"
SAVE these BIOS settings.
(when you are done installing WINXP,...re-enter BIOS and change settings to boot from HDD-0) (save this BIOS setting)
ROCK AND ROLL

anybody know what's wrong with my computer?
I think it's actually damage from a virus, which was called "slimshield", that I removed already. I dont' see how I could still have one, I've done the following.
- Ewido (all malware scanner)
- Norton (virus scanner)
- Adaware (adware scanner)
- Webroot Spysweeper (spyware, adware, and trojan scanner. also monitors running processes)
- Winpatrol (monitors all running processes and programs in computers, with detailed analysis of each)
- Hijack This (lists pretty much everything in your computer that does anything, and can remove anything)
- Counter Spy (spyware program)
- Spybot S&D (spyware program)
- Spyware blaster (blocks spyware downloads)
- AVG (anti-virus, also takes care of general malware, but mainly made for viruses)
- Antivir (anti-virus and trojan)
- www.trendmicro.com online malware scan
- Trend Micro Anti-spyware
- PC Cillin anti-virus, paid version (made by trend micro)
- trend micro's, CW Shredder (for removing coolwebsearch)
- Microsoft anti-spyware, firewall, and virus.
and I've checked my ad/remove programs, my easy cleaner, checked my registry inside out, and even changed my IP address just to be safe.
so, I don't see how it's viruses at work anyway. but thankyou for the advice everybody.

virus damage cannot be repaired by those programs, you must re-format and re-snstall windows....then re-install all that crap if you think it isnecessary - to protect you from future viruses.
Installing all that crap is just the beginning....you must update the databases for each of them. (pain)
I run Norton Antivirus. THAT IS ALL. I keep Windows updated and Norton database also updated,....I have not had virus in 2 years. I downdoad a ton of stuff (bit torrent and the like) and am always clean.
