I've got a friend that has this happen to him. Not all the time, but, as you say, once in a while. They're 'panic attacks'. His body gets a small dumb feeling, and then his entire mind/body follows up on that... bug snowball effect. YIKES! I've been present two times: once he told me that his lungs where liquified... that I 'had' to help him.

Second time, he told me to get him to a hospital. Now, I'm no doctor, but I'm positive this is some disgruntled brain-cells working against the tide. So when he had those panic attacks, I told him: "Dude, I'll shot a water house into your face, but I ain't taking you to a hospital."

He was all like: "Noooo!!! Dude, I'm going to DIE!!!"
And I was like: "Well, that would suck. To remember you as my friend who died of nothing!"

Interesting point: His attacks got gradually less common once he phased out of smoking weed. I know he's been clean for about 2 years; I'm not sure how long has it been since one of those things has hit him, but there was definitely a correlation between weed smoking and these attacks.
NOTE: When I say connection, I mean that my friend connected weed with 'something wrong' (liquid lungs?!) in his mind.

I believe in the power of the mind. I know you can do whatever the fuck you want... it starts inside your head.

So, as to your panic attacks, I suggest you smoke a heavy dose of weed in a very cool place. Maybe the beach... a river... forrest... wherever... find a very chillin' place. Before smoking, dude, check your self. Are you physically ok? Yes? Well, convince your self that doesn't matter what your feel in the next smoking session, it will be mental. You're physically ok.

I hadn't had smoked anything for 3 - 4 months when I had showed up, my system was squeaky clean. I get there and we share a nice wooden pipe packed bowl back and forth, I took 3 big hits. About 5 - 7 minutes later, I passed out. My friend totally freaked out! He said I was like that for about 20 - 30 seconds.
