When to take cuttings ??????

Hi peeps,

was wondering when do i take cuttings ? age of plant mine is around 6 weeks or size ? 12" at the mo

also where do i take it from on the plant, ie base of the leaf cut at the stem ?!!

sorry for the stupid questions peeps all help required ive looked around but still cant find answers

Teegan, if you don't mind parting with the branch, then clone it. Soft tisuue/new groowth cones easier than woody hard old growth. Try a couple clones and go from there.

Use a sharp razor blade and cut a 45 degree angel. If you can get wilt spray, you should... you spray this stuffon the leaves and the plants will retain their moisture giving them a better chance to clone.

If your supposed to take cuttings when the plant is in veg. then how do u kno if your cutting from a female plant or a male plant? if you sprouted your plants from seeds...

Not true at all. GK is right a soft tissue stem roots faster then an old hard stem.

To answer the other question.

The best and quickest way to sex a plant is to take a few clones as early in the vegetation cycle as you can. They will not be very large and that is just fine. You root the first of the clones numbering each one so you know what plant they came from. Once they are rooted you switch them to 12/12 to flower them. You will then know the sex of the plants in the main room in just a few weeks. They are still in vegetation cycle and still growing and now you know the males and can remove them before they even show their sex. This will save you trouble, space and the chance of pollen getting on your females.

Now that you know the sex of your plants you can cut your real clones just before you switch them into then flower cycle.

hmm ive been telling that to the wife for years LOL

according to what ive read early bud grows to 3-4 ft do i need to nip the top at any stage or just leave it it does look a bit straggly at the mo or does bushing out come later
