The majority of people believe bad things about pot simply because the majority of people say bad things about pot. The vast majority of things you hear about pot in public are negative, and without any direct experience with it people are likely to believe them. For most people it's inconceivable that the government and the education system would so adamantly propagate an idea that just isn't true. Then when they hear somebody touting the scientific evidence that pot is a relatively harmless drug, they will dismiss them as just a deluded drug addict and won't take anything seriously.

The reason it's so hard to challenge the prevailing ideas effectively is that to most people our ideas are really outlandish, since they are in direct opposition to everything they've been taught throughout their lives by teachers, policemen, parents, legislators and the press. To that person, you look like just another crackpot until you provide enough evidence that your claim is correct. In order to maintain your position you have to refute lots and lots of popular myths about pot, and you have to bring up a lot of complex information about human biology, brain chemistry, sociology, criminal punishment, etc. And to top it off you have to explain how we got to a point where almost everybody believes those myths. Most people simply don't have the time or motivation to listen to somebody explain all this stuff. And even if they did, where would they get it from? The mainstream media aren't going to distribute this information to the public, because they don't get any money out of it. The media don't care about truth and objectivity, they are corporations and are ultimately concerned only with profit. And outside the media, well, how many of us are really going out and confronting people with this information?

I mean c'mon!!! why are most people act so badly againts weed anyways...pot does have its obvious medical side to it but why do people hate it...could it be just they way how they were brought up...how the goverment brained wahsed them saying as soon as you touch pot you become somthing like a cuban druglord?! or could it simply their bad experiences with pot so they force their kids to like...never touch drugs...or you'll DIE!!! anyone got any views on this?
