Arnold Says No to Gay Marriage

Californiaâ??s gay and lesbian community is reacting with fury to Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzeneggerâ??s announcement late Wednesday afternoon that he plans to veto legislation, headed for his desk, which would have legalized same-sex marriage in the nationâ??s largest state.

Psycho, we are, for once, in total agreement.
\"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will, within limits drawn by the equal rights of others. I do not add \"within the limits of the law\', because law if often but the tyrant\'s will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.\"-Thomas Jefferson.

    Howdy,

I agree with Arnold,a fraction of the populace, that engages in deviant sex, should not destroy the Judeo-Christian institution of marriage, civil unions are one thing..but gay marriage is another, marriage implies a union blessed by God..when such a union..would never be blessed by God. Gay marriage,is an attempt to secularize the nation and destroy Judeo-Christian values.

    Have a good one ....

As much as I don't believe that the government should have any right in what people do in their lives as long as they don't harm anybody or anybody's property, I kinda have to agree with you on this one Torog. If the Christian Church is against gay marriage then why try and have a same-sex marriage in a Christian church? If you were black you wouldn't try and join the Ku Klux Klan, would you? That may seem completely ignorant, but I just don't believe (after much deliberation) that gay people should even want to get married in a place that forbids it. Why not just get married in a registry office or whatever you call it?

Now that is kind of a different issue. Separation of church and state! If the State/Fed decide that they want to recognize same sex marriage thats one thing as far as "benifits" are concerned. As for the Church, I believe that this should be left as to the discression of the church and their beliefs. The government can adjust laws for the beliefs of the people but has no right to change the wording of ones bible.

Ah, okay, I see. I don't believe the government should be involved at all, so yeah, on that we agree. So I guess I do think same-sex marriages should be legalised. But I still don't think it makes sense for gay couples to want to get married in a church. I'm an atheist and I wouldn't want to get married in a church for the simple fact that the Church wouldn't want me to get married in it.

EXACTLY!!! If their looking to be recognized by the state thats one thing, if their looking for it through the church their blowing smoke! Why would they want to be married in an institution that is against their beliefs...like being an atheist, why go to a church??

Because the acts of those consenting adults will flow onto the Tax payers...we gota pay for the medical bills when they contract HiV. Gay Marriage is and forever will be illegal unless your in a heavy liberal state.

Yes, many gay people dont care much for marriage but many denominations are allowing gay marriage now, and this trend is surely to continue. I dont think gay people want to force churches to allow gay marriage, they just dont want second-class status by having their marriage called a "civil union". Many gay people are Christian as well, and they re-interpret the bible verses that condemn homosexuality.

Some Christians will say that gay couples can have all the rights that straight people do, but dont think it should be called marriage, because a "marriage means a lifelong commitent betwen a man and women with the intention of starting a family, and thats the way its been for thousands of years" This isnt a very convincing argument, in my opinion. For one thing, the definition of marriage has evolved considerably since the feminist movement. Would you call a union in which a man beats his wife everyday, uses her for sex, and expects her to be a servant, a marriage? Well, this is what "marriage" was for thousands of years. What about polygamy, which was practiced for thousands of years and called "marriage"? Not even many Christians today would call these unions marriage. To me, at the core a marriage means two people wanting to spend their entire lives together simply because they truly love eachother, Why put so much focus on the gender definition, when marriage means so much more.

This guy has got to be the dumbest fucker on this board. HIV is spread through contact with another infected person. Gay or not gay. Someone with at least a little bit of intelligence, say that of a common shrew, would figure out that people entering into a legally binding, monogamous relationship can only slow the spread of HIV. Seems like the shrew has one up on this guy.
