I've heard plenty of people thinking they've gone to another universe, reality, dimension, spirit world etc. just remember, there's no limit to what the mind can believe or experience, and there's no limit to how real and sure it can seem. but in the end, it's all just chemicals fucking with your brain. CHEMICALS, little bits of molecules that send incorrect information to your neurons to no limit. don't ever fall for that crap that you're being given powers or super mental abilities or any of that stuff, as so many do.

From what I can see, the effects of Datura are literally near-death deliruim, brought about by raising your body temperature and dehydrating you to dangerous levels. Basically, it almost kills you and you trip out because of it. Don't touch that shit.

GHoSToKeR you are partially right. Although I havn't read up on it I doubt that by raising blood preasure and dehydrating you will cause you to have the same effects as Datura.

I think the main ingreadient in Datura is tropanes as it says used in high doses it causes: disorientation, confusion, hallucinations, delusions,
panic, etc.

Some more info about it: "The interesting thing about this class of hallucinogens is
that the person taking the drug is often absolutely convinced that the
hallucinations/delusions are, in every sense, real; furthermore, he or she
may attempt to interact with them (and perceive normal response). This
can range from amusing to dangerous. There is often a severe distortion
of position/kinetic sense leading many to say they feel like they were
in free-fall or flying."

A reason why it is hard to judge doses: "The really dangerous thing about tropanes is that they have rather strong
peripheral effects in comparison to their psychoactive effects. The
lethal dose / effective dose ratio is dangerously low; furthermore, the
strength of tropanes in wild plants ranges considerably. The Datura
genus may contain alkaloids which have neurotoxic effects, in addition to
the tropane alkaloids."

Sounds to me it is the tropanes causing you to trip not the Body temperature + dehydration, although it is not something you want to put your body through.

Thanks, Moggizle! I was just guessing, going by some of the Experiences posted at Erowid. I spent ages reading through those yesterday, and like you said, most people make sure to warn others off trying it... It doesn't sound like something anybody should try, no matter how much they're in to experimenting.

I also read another story of a guy who took it, went out in his backyard, came back an hour later with his tounge in his hands. He had cut it off with a pair of pinching shears, while sitting in his boxers in the backyard. He doesn't remeber doing it.

I can understand why the guy proberbly did it. Because you get extreme drymouth and in his delerious state he would of thought the only way to stop it was to cut it off, although he can't remember doing it i'm sure at the time he was thinking that.

I've read all of the experiences in erowid about Datura. Let me save everyone some time by checking to see the majority of people who have tryed it opinions, around 95% of people in there strongly reccomend NOT trying it.

I would say that out of all the drugs I know Datura is the one I have the most info about..

Brugmansia related to Datura is similair in alot of ways, except that Brugmansia (aka Angels Trumpet, Tree Datura) is a tree with (I think) larger flowers then Datura.

"Most parts of the plant contain atropine, scopolamine and hyoscyamine. It has been used as an admixture plant in ayahuasca brews as well as in poisons and medicines in S. America."

Cool man, that's the exact one I read. I'll post it here anyways:

October 18, 2004: This story from Halle in Germany deserves the greatest publicity (I quote): "Student cuts off penis and tongue after drinking hallucinogenic tea. A student cut off his own penis and his tongue after drinking an infusion of the latest drugs craze to sweep Germany. The 18-year-old, only named as Andreas W, from Halle in Germany drank a tea made with the hallucinogenic angels' trumpet plants. His mother said: "Andreas was behaving normally the whole day until he left the house and disappeared into the garden for a couple of minutes." When he returned to the house he was wearing a towel wrapped around him and was bleeding heavily from his mouth and between his legs. The emergency doctor who arrived a few minutes later said the student had cut off his penis and his tongue with garden shears and it was impossible to reattach the organs. Dr Andreas Marneros, from the local psychiatric hospital the student was admitted to, said: "Andreas will have to receive psychological help for years.
