My leaves don't look like they should...

I have never grown weed before but I planted a bunch of seeds from a good good bag I just finished. I planted the seeds two weeks ago in a 12" clay pot and left them outside on the deck. The plants that have sprouted have leaves that look kind of like boat padles. The biggest plant is about three inches tall right now and none of the leaves have the serrated edges you would normally see. I'm starting to wonder now if something else is growing in my soil. I've tried to search for pics of baby plants on the net but so far have not found any that look like my plants.

The first "leaves" that sprout are cotyledons. They break out of the seed, and look like ovals, or thin pringles (those chips). As soon as they break out, get them under a flourecent light, CFLS are good, or natural sunlight, otherwise they will get light deficiency, will stretch alot, and will be a really shitty plant. Usually if under light, after a day or two, you will see the first set of serrated edge leaves, that you can't mistake for anything other than pot. The first set will only be one leaf. Then so on.

not true horror business, serated edges can take a week. those 2 bigger leaves u said looked like boats will get narower n get ridges ull see it in a few weeks wut u describeed in ur msg wus a seedling of marijuana just leave it. itll look like a marijuana leaf only one of those ridge leaves on each side with 2 tiny ridge leaves forming in the middle.

No, only the second set and up will get serrations, the first set always looks like paddles, period.

No, I'm not wrong. I said that under light, they will usually get their first set of leaves in one or two days. I've sprouted dozens of plants, and that's how long it's always taken me. But I've always germinated my seeds first, so maybe that's why it will take longer.
Oh and 4x4, I think you are referring to the cotyledons, because the first set of "true leaves" will have serrations. I know, because I've grown.

Yes, I was talking about the cotyledons always being round, and I was trying to say no to what ISMOKEM... was saying, I always count the coty's as the first set of leaves. sorry for the mixup.
