California Legislature OKs gay marriage bill
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The California Legislature on Tuesday became the first legislative body in the country to approve same-sex marriages, as gay-rights advocates overcame two earlier defeats in the Assembly.
The 41-35 vote sends the bill to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who had no comment on the bill when it cleared the Senate last week. His office did not immediately respond late Tuesday to a call seeking comment.
The billā??s supporters compared the legislation to earlier civil rights campaigns, including efforts to eradicate slavery and give women the right to vote.

Saaaayyyy ARRRNOOOLLLLDDDD. How does the big bad terminator feel about this????
BWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Don't get the wrong idea....I personally don't really give a crap! This should be national though instead of state. Just for S.S. benifits, retirement plans, etc..... You may have that law in California but if your companies main office is in Iowa your pension plan, etc...woudn't go in the direction of "your heart"?.?....??......?

I'm a Californian, live in the San Francisco area, and I'm all for it. I'm not gay, I'm happily married but am pro gay marraige for two main reasons.
First-I really hate when other, mostly conservative Christian types, try to tell other people how they should live based on their values. Frankly, its none of my business if a gay couple wants to get married. Doesn't matter if I approve or not.
Second- Just a little over 40 years ago my marriage would have been illegal in some states. I'm white and my wife is Asain and if this were 1960 and I lived in Virginia I could be sent to jail for miscegenation. The same arguments of "it's not natural" and "its against God's plan" would be used. Fuck that. I don't really see my position 40 years ago as that different from homosexual couple position now.
Bottom line is it doesn't change my life one way or another if they get married. If it makes them happy why not?

This is one of the most idiotic statements I've seen on this board. Hmmn, is someone a bit homophobic?

Woohoo! It's always nice to see institutionalized homophobia crumbling.

No, haven't you heard? If your state tolerates same-sex marriage, you will turn gay and have sex with lots of men and rip apart the social fabric of society and make baby Jesus cry. I mean, just look at the moral state of ruin in the places where it's been legalized: Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain...Oh wait, what? Those are peaceful industrialized societies that haven't broken down? Forget it then.

how about the government gets out of marriage all together? it's none of their business to begin with...that would be the true conservative view...not the giant government 3+ trillion dollar budget "conservative" government we have now...
yet we grovel to them and beg and plead for these rights, as if they are the arbitor of them...
marriage license? does anyone else think that's not really freedom...fuck the license...it has nothing to do with being licensed or the government. it's all these little tricks government use to get you under their control, even the difference between "the united states" and the "the united states of America"...one is a corporation.

I'll agree with the first sentance and that's about it! Fuck the license? What about health care benifits for spouses, SSI, etc.... All these "marriage" privs lost because the government doesn't recognize the marriage. Fuck it right??

Well, why should married couples receive those benefits but not unmarried couples? You shouldn't be forced to make a vow of monogamy to get them if you don't want to.
