Usually If I'm smoking alone, I do it carelessly. Because I want to hurry up and smoke it. But if i'm around people, I'll cut it up and pack as much into the bowl as I can.

When I'm driving however. I usually already have shake and cut up weed ready for those times of needs, I just dip it in the bag, and use my thumb to push it in there. Works pretty good!

Thought it might be cool to hear some ideas. I break my nug or nugs up until they are the size of pencil erasers. I pick up the mound of nug pieces in my fingers and form it into a LOOSE ball. I then pack it into my bowl. I don't pack it tight before pushing it in because it won't hit because it'll be too tight.
