what the hell is wrong with humanity?

yes, I know there's been a good deal of hurricane threads, but damn! after watching cnn and bctv news, I can't believe how dispicable people are in these situations, you'd think somewhere people would pull together and help each other.
instead, I hear that the number of rapes in new orleanes has skyrocketed. apparently mass flooding and death just gets the juices flowing in some people .
but not just that, the gangs have pretty much taken over, they just interviewed a group of people yesterday who are all living on a rooftop in hiding because they're afraid of being shot in the streets (as has been happening). people have also been shooting at the national guard who's trying to help survivors.
and it's not just the violent people either, they interviewed one guy who was in tears because he had been in the water 8 friggin hours with his dog because all the people in boats refused to pick him up.
there was another group of people stranded in a hotel because they couldn't get transportation, and some other occupants with multiple vehicles packed their cars up with luggage and refused to take anybody because they didnt' want to leave their precious belongings behind.
just goes to show how "civilized" a lot of society is and how far we really have to go in humanity. not one person who pulled any of that above stuff should be allowed to call themselves "christian" or any other faith.
also really makes me think of all the people who think they're so high and mighty and pure, yet put personal belongings above human life. Perhapse us "useless pot smoking hippies" who indulge in the evil marijuana aren't really any worse than the good pure abstinent people.

Amen, man. Some people are fucked up. I said in another thread that we shouldn't judge some of the things these people are doing, like stealing TVs and stuff. But this kind of shit is inexcusable.

Everybody to leave all their belongings behind and get everybody they can that'll fit in there car and leave?

Sadly no.... This isn't a movie or some book..... This is america, hell this is the world, get with it.

Any big city in the world that gets flooded like that, there will be rape, looting, etc. Just how the world and humans work. Nothings wrong with it, its just nature at a low.

Not eveybody has the decency to save a deprived family or kid... And its not a bad thing. They are simply trying to survive like the rest of us but are lucky to have more priveleges, and they will take advantage of it.

Bottom line is, you gotta expect it in the world nowadays. It is very hard to accept it but you have to whether you like it or not. I certainly don't like it, but I can't do anything but donate something to them.

Btw, my hopes and prayers will be with them until they are 100%

I can understand looting food, dipers, survival stuff, but if you don't have a home what the hell do you need with a t-v the size of a car. some of the suff they take is just stupid and greed. funny how some people act to tragedy. They take it as open season on any thing they can grab.
