OK, I got bored and did not want to wait to talk to H, he logged off right after I posted for a chat...anyway I took some lava rock and put it in the bottom of 6' pots, then decided to start them in styro cups...I am using Schultz Cactus grow-mix...a very nice mix...I hope
Camera still broke, so I'm starting this grow thread for reference...thanks for stopping by

Why the Cactus Grow soil mix? What's special about it? Just wondering.

I just checked it out as an alternative to soil...I don't want to use soil and the cactus mix retains moisture well is light and airy, before watering, I did add 4-5 handfuls of perlite...I also rea;;y like the orchid mix at Wally's...$8 bucks a bag
...Marc, just like Harddon uses Cactus ferts and you have joined him, well this is a medium designed for succulents, so I thought I'd give it a GO.

    Interesting that you mention succulents. I had asked that question some time ago and I did some research into whether or not these plants are actually succulents. Nope. They're an herb. Here's some quotes;

"Cannabis sativa, indica and ruderalis are all a sub-species of Cannabis, which is a dioecious, annual herb. The correlation between cannabis and the tomato plant stems from them both having similiar growth and flowering requirements. (i.e nutrients, ph, temp, etc.)"

    and

"...is not technically a succulent at all, but an herb"

I was trying to find out because of a formula for a fert I was going to use (Schultz Cactus) giving a recipe for indoor or outdoor succulents. Anyway I found out that although cannabis is not technically a succulent, but an herb, they both require similar fert strengths to prosper. FWIW

As for me using the cactus fert, if I had access to something other than that right now I wouldn't use it. Rather go organic then chemical. Probably will next time.

1st, I would disregard the directions on the bottle and use common sense as far as the indoor outdoor thing, the same bullshit is on the cactus mix bag, but we're not growing cactus, so advice is moot...you really ought to try the orchid mix...I have my 2 potted plants from my clones(you remember my clones, right)...well 2 of them are in the orchid mix(in the big pots)...might be Schultz,
anyway they are going great...the mix stay moist for a while...it is soiless-bark charcoal and moss, I believe...I wasted 2 clones, the ones that were still in the styro cups in my pix, they were full of roots and they were potted in orchid mix...when I presoaked the mix before potting, it was 6.5 ph...perfect!this mix was about 8 bucks
but I tell you, if things grow as they are, I might look no further for potted grow medium...the cactus mix is working well also, I just wanted to try it...
Marc, when I look for a mix, I use my research and look for something with a bark and peat of some kind perlite or 'lite something, the orchid mix has arcllite...the orchid mix has hortictural charcoal, I think that is some badshit!
the cactus mix has sand and lime...when I pick it up in my hand, I can just feel it..
Sorry about babbling on, but I just hit 4-5 bongs of my freshly cured tomato's
In conclusion...I think i am going to start my seeds in the cactus mix..it resembles the mix in peat pellets ...and then transplant into the orchid mix,so so rich...
this is how i'm going to find females and then clone for my hydro monster grows...

While weed may be classified as an herb, it is still a succulent, as it possesses the "ability to both move AND store nutrients in its roots, stems and flowers."

Some will define it as an herb....

Some will define it as a weed....

It's like saying a life form is "life".

You can continue to subclass it....

    Human
    Gender
    Race

    etc......

    As for the cacti ferts.....

Well.....my results speak for me for myself for the test. I will use cacti 2-7-7 over and over and over again.

That shit works and is very gentle at the same time.

    LW.....

As for your cactus soil...I would be concerned as succulents come in many forms and varieties and jsut cuz cacti are good with it, doesnt mean MJ will be.

True Cacti Soil is very sandy and contains many clay chips Excellent for drought areas. It will work for MJ but you will need to ride the fine line between drought and just enuff water.

I think if you have a good indica strain it should be suitable, but I wouldnt try it on more than 25% of the grow.

If you can master the moisture issue, you can do it.

I grew up in Arizona and I can assure you the plants there produce some good desert plants

But they will need far more water than cacti will

the schultz is ridge peat, sphag moss perlite and sand, no clay ...the seedlings in in are thriving now and is retains moisture real well, I plan on transplanting this when necessary into the schultz orchid mix, which I am using for exp. with clone, doing as well as my hydro plants, so I am sold on this mix...
I have one seedling that has a fatass purple stem and I can't even shake it with the fan blowing right at it ...right now I think I have found a 2 very nice mediums to work with, thanks harddon P.s. I am not using cactus ferts, but I'm glad to know(already knew) that they work for you...the Madman is not against trying something new...you know though, I never put the sand and indica together...hmmmm
