Just basic physics really. You see if you want to strike an object to gain the higher projectile velocity you must first calculate a trajectory just above your horizontal ballistic maximum. In the case of this scenario the objects rate of descent must be transferred 'en masse' into a projectile mode. This causes difficulty due to flat plane false horizon and you're actually reading this aren't you.
