    new indoor grow

i will be startin a new indoor grow soon and and using 2, 25W CFL's and a 20W florescent tube that my mom baught from walmart a while ago (the box said it was for growing).

i had a few questions before i start

    1. would a 16/8 light cycle work for veg?
    2. would i have a head prob with CFL's
    3. i want to keep the plants pretty small, so whats the minimum amount of time i can veg?
    4. will i get any buds in the end (im not hoping for alot)

anyone else ever use CFL's and how do they work for growing

    First off

yes, flouros work great for vegging

    flowering you NEED a HPS.

Keep flouros on for vegging 24/7 and keep bulbs an inch or closer to growth tips.

Keeping the light as close as possible keeps the plants short and stocky.

anytime after the plant is 21 days old you can begin to flower.

The earlier you flower the less yield and potency.

Flowering requires a strict 12 hours on, 12 hours off regimin

And this is assuming you have all females....thats a whole other thing.

These simple facts can produce good stuff

All things considered i would keep your first grow as simple as possible and follow the basic plan that was layed out above. Do this once or twice and then start looking into more advanced methods/soils/lights and things...

    Good Luck

flos alone is good for cloning..maybe veggin...still make your plants stringy and stretchy...but to produce flowers tight u will need at least 50k lumens..which is equal to the sun...i mean , bust the move, go with a 400 hps and a good bulb and you can veg and flower.....
lighting hours like Heads 4 just posted...is a safe bet...in the 12/12 cycle it is important to have total darkness.......with a do not disturb sign up..lol

Too keep plants small a 3 gallon pot and start flowering at 4 weeks will keep it small , plus topping...make sure prior to flowering you top and let the nodes fill in again ...other wise it can shock the plant...If you plan to take clones..go to 6 weeks,,,then flower...good to understand the strain your working with too..
good luck,,,,but yes go with at least 50k lumens,,,,,

"The earlier you flower the less yield and potency."

Is this actually true? I've heard from many supposed experts that potency doesn't increase with maturity, just yield and that's all because of the physical size of the plant.

I guess that's not true in all cases as is evident by these pics. All CFL's. Not to say that an MH wouldn't have just smoked this growth. Just stating that to some this is pretty good growth. To some it's unreal growth and especially with CFL's. But I think we forget sometimes that fluorescents were the light of choice not that long ago and some major grows were accomplished with them. But with most things, advances have been made and so the 'old' stuff is looked down upon. Wrongly in some instances.

NOTE: Some of the colors in these pics are off from what they actually are. Look sort of yellow. Nice healthy green though in reality.

Here's a couple. Not mine. Secret is using enough CFL's or strong enough ones. This person used 6 55 watt CFL's.
