Light during 12/12 dark period, how bad is that?
Mostly just curious how much of an effect does light during their dark period have on your plants? Like I don't think a little light now and then will hurt but what if you spent like three or four hours withj the lights on when it was supposed to be dark time??
Also wonder what happens if you change light and dark schedule ? Like going from say 8pm to 8 am with lights out then after a couple weeks changing it to like something like midnight to noon with lights out ?
How important is keeping the schedule, light and dark time and complete uninterrupted darkness during dark period?? How bad of an effect can poor management of schedule and light have on your grow.
Any input advice, information and input would be appreciated

It is important to keep the dark period, 100% dark, no light leaks, no flipping the light on for 2min for a look, and no messing with lighting times.
What will happen is your plant will stress out. During the early stage of its life, expose it to light or stressing it out will give you better chance of a male plant, which produce no buds or THC. If your plant is on 12/12, you're going to hermie it, resulting in seeded buds and male plant matter.
Don't mess with the lights, stay on schedule and don't change around the lighting times. It will do more harm than good.

Not to go against what you suggest Chowder but if a male plant doesn't produce any THC, why is it that it gives me a pretty good buzz when I smoke ol' Charlie from the last grow? Big time male. No doubt. I even let it go for a while just to grow a little more. Any thoughts?

Well I dont think you can say a male plant produces ZERO THC.
It is inherent in its structure as a MJ Plant.
But as far as you getting a pretty good buzz.....
Maybe you're just a light weight
Yes I too have been stoned from males but I think its the exception rather than the rule in the case of ol' Charlie and his potent brothers

some things to remember? there's always ambient light from the moon, stars, passing cars..etc. it's never officially pitch black..even at the latest hours of the night. Also, some plants are hermie from seed, depending on the reliability of the seed.

lights leaks & interuption of the dark period longer than a few microseconds WILL be detremental to flowering, either by making hermies or extending the flowering time of the given strain. not a good idea @ all. my first grow i checked it almost every nite & nothing happened, but with a good stock it tends to stress them. r

Bill you will be fine. You can use a green bulb not a green filter but a green colored bulb. You will be able to see to work but the plant will not be affected by the green light.
The plant does not see the color green. There are so many other things that affect the plant (heat, Ph, nutrients, ect) don't sweat the little light too much.

Light during 12/12 dark period, how bad is that?
Hey Guys thanks for the input. I had left the lights on for as couple extra hours one night to work and shifted the on off period slightly to make working in there during light hours possible at a more convienent time and began to wonder. I think the biggest concern I have had (being my first indoor) that I have had a problem with was the heat during the recent heat wave. Managing nutes has been pretty easy to control with the hanna ph/ec/ppm meter. ventilation I have as far as exchange of fresh air.
A few improvisions and it has been going ok. have had to use peet gravel in my medium on a few later buckets, hopefully that shouldn't make too much difference .Have had one soil plant take a bad nute burn but I look at it as lucky it was only one and at least now I know what it looks like and can avoid it. have popcorn buds on a couple scraggly plants not sure why when the rest are doing what appears to be normal(only have a couple more but giving the comparison). Can't think of anything else I have had problems with other than , water syphoning back through the pumps, watering methods( shifted to drippers and manual watering), getting light timers correct, plant spacing, and knocking over my home made bubble cloner (with about 4 or 5 gallons of water in it)and flooding the room. LOL what a trip that was. Amazingly the clones survived and are still rooting so its working. Just thought I would mention some of the problems I have ran across so maybe some newbies can read be aware of, prepare and avoid having the same problems.
post is getting a bit lengthy, sorry but one last thing ZANDOR buddy you may enjoy this little bit of info .... I have one TREE and two that are looking like they could be getting there too!!! But the one I have had to tie down in five different directions now and must have 25 side branches standing up already , thick frigging stock and it has damn near consumed 1/3 of my grow space. Huge fan leaves its spread over about 5 feet by 5 feet and is already still 4 feet high and growing. Leaving with one problem .....Space ... I'm running out of it lol
ok ok I'll stop thanks again everyone( Bob Bong - good point about the abient light thanks)
Peace everyone, Bill
