Ok so I've taken everyone's advice and installed my 400w hps vertically, though I'm kinda scared to test it out as I heard lights attached to batwing are meant to be hung horizontally and that if you install it vertically it could blow... Is this true????

look up the type of bulb you have from the manufactures web site. It will tell you if your bulb is universal, vert or horz before you light it up. Most of the bulbs they sell to home owners is the universal type. Don't take a chance look it up.
