My pups do that too. It's marking their territory; they also do it all around the property but mostly in their favorite spots. They are very cute when they do that.
My boy dog has one great habit. He loves to help me carry in the groceries. Certain things I won't let him carry cuz of teeth holes tho. lol

Also, we have this one year old cat and she's a riot. She can be in a dead sleep and yet the second I finish changing her litter box, she's right there behind me.................waiting to mess it up.
