    elote

Elote is an addictive corn dish with sour cream, parmesean cheese, butter, and this other stuff that looks kinda like mayonaisse except it's off white colored in it(with lots of hot sauce added). I can only get it from street vendors in the mostly mexican areas of my city. I was just wondering if anyone knows what the last mayonaisse-like ingredient is, because I am addicted to it and it is becoming expensive to drive to the barrio and buy. I did a google search but can't find anything that tells me what's in it. I'd ask the vendor, but I don't speak spanish and he don't speak english.

I tried to make it several times with random ingredients that looked like they could be the mystery substance, but none turned out right. Maybe it's rotten mayonaisse??? I'll go try that...

Anyway, if you know, or if you're just down with da corn, hit me back.

I think part of your problem is that elote seems to mean corn in spanish.

Yeah, I figured that out doing a search, but here, everyone calls corn "maize" and uses "elote" to refer to this specific corn concoction. I guess I'll just have to find out what it's actually called. Until then, I'll be visiting the grundy street vendors to get my elote fix.

coming from the "ghetto" i'm definately sure of this. The "corn lady" as we call them come in shopping carts down the street with horns yelling "elotes, tamales, raspado..." and people come out their houses and buy them for $1.00. Simple ingredients (you can make it at home) corn, parkay butter, MAYONAISE, parmesian cheese and chili powder. Stick it on a fuckin' stick and there goes your fuckin' "ELOTE". THE CORN LADY WOULD CALL YOU "ESTUPIDO".

Actually jahrastabitch, the term obviously refers to a different variation in my area. The corn is not on a stick, but cut from the cob and put into a cup, and mixed with the other ingredients. Also, mayonaisse is not a brownish color and tastes differently. Also, there is not chili powder in it where I am from. I have even tried mayonaise, but that's not it.

However, I do appreciate your attempt at clarifying the situation, no matter how ill-mannered it was.

I found a recipe for a Mexican condiment called Green Mayonnaise, it may be the mystery ingredient, I don't know. Here it is:

    I cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup minced roasted Anaheim or New Mexico chile
3 garlic cloves, roasted and mashed
Fresh Mexican lime juice, to taste

Combine all ingredients and mix well. Refigerate for at least 1 hour.

I just posted a recipe, I am officially a boring house wife. Hope it helps.
