    Light Question

You can if you have one of the switchable ballast

Mh use only a transformer and capacitor

HPS light need transformer (w/ extra 277v tap). a capacitor and igniter to make the light work.

You can buy conversion bulbs, but they are expensive.

You can also just buy a HPS light and a Hortilux bulb and use it start to finish (once the plant reaches the vegetation cycle anyway)

You should still use fluorescent lights for clones and seedlings.

What exactly is a Hortilux bulb? What is the difference between that and other bulbs?

    Standard H.P.S. Bulbs

High Pressure Sodium bulbs are red/orange in the spectrum. They are the best lamps available for indoor growing of flowering plants. This type of light promotes flowering/budding in plants. It is ideal for indoor greenhouses and commercial growing applications.

    1000w HPS Bulb (140,000 Lumens)
    600w HPS Bulb (92,000 Lumens)
    430w HPS Bulb (53,000 Lumens)
    400w HPS Bulb (50,000 Lumens)
    250w HPS Bulb (28,500 Lumens)
    150w HPS Bulb (16,000 Lumens)
    100w HPS Bulb (9,500 Lumens)

    Enhanced Spectrum H.P.S. Bulbs

Enhanced Spectrum High Pressure Sodium bulbs are color shifted to product more blue than a standard HPS bulb. This makes them great for "one bulb grows all" lighting. They have great red spectrum making them a good flowering bulb, and additional blue spectrum making them an effective vegetative growth bulb, keeping the stems from elongating which can happen with standard HPS bulbs during vegetative growth.

1000w HPS Hortilux Bulb (145,000 Lumens)
600w HPS Hortilux Bulb (85,000 Lumens)
600w HPS GroLux Bulb (90,000 Lumens)
600w HPS Plantastar Bulb (87,000 Lumens)
430w HPS Hortilux Bulb (58,000 Lumens)
400w HPS Hortilux Bulb (55,000 Lumens)
400w HPS GroLux Bulb (58,000 Lumens)
400w HPS Plantastar Bulb (55,000 Lumens)
270w HPS Super Agro Bulb (29,500 Lumens)
160w HPS Super Agro Bulb (17,500 Lumens)

May I alsp suggest you purchase a good book and read it before you try to grow.
I recommend a copy Jorge Cervantes book "Indoor Marijuana Horticulture the indoor Bible" you will use it as a reference for many years to come the ISBN number is 1-878823-29-9 he may have a new one out by now, Iā??m not sure.

Do you have a source for transformers, capacitors, and igniters that we can buy from? Zandor

Yes I do but they are not as cheep as eBay is. Look in your yellow pages for electric supply houses, most of them will sell to home owners (they need the business) you are just an over the counter sale to most of them.

You are looking for replacement parts for your lights. Just give them the wattage you are looking for and they can sell you a replacement kit. They also sell moog sockets too. You do need to know a little about electricity, the kits are only that, the inside of a light. No housing so you get only the guts and need to wire the rest your self.

Hell last week I picked up 4 1000w HPS transformers for $58.00 each and 20 bucks in shipping.

with all the ruckus being raised about hortilux, you need to post a sticky and it will cut down your response time, brother
I buy from my local electrical supply house and found that they are much cheaper than anywhere else and they sell right over the counter, no names or numbers. cash and out the door...I just was curious since you are larger than most if you knew a better supply option, thanks Z...
P.S. folks, take heed of this info, you can buy some things locally, if you have the balls, and save alot of money.
