Just need some starting off advice...
Longtime enjoyer of this little hobby, but never grown. Little bit shy and protective of the fact that I do this, so I've never made real great connections to get high grade shit. Always your mid-grades with some kind once in a while when I could find it...
Anyway, I've sort of come to the conclusion that it would be a lot easier on myself if I just took control of the situation and created my own stuff. So now what I need to ask is, what do I do?
Here's my situation, I live in a mobile home, and I have one closet which I can clear out and use. Here's the skinny on the space, it has a wooden door which has a standard lock, so i'll be able to put the plants behind lock and key if family's over.
21 inches deep, 5 feet wide, about 5 feet tall you hit a built in shelf. Shelf is about 12 inches deep. Then about another 20 inches to the ceiling.
Our mobile home is air conditioned, no central air. This room doesn't have an AC in it. More than fine with having fans and shit in the room, so long as it fits into a design where I can close and lock that door safely for a few hours. Have a couple of standard power plugins in the room, and another one closeby that I could run a drop cord into...carpet on the floor.
So really I'm just looking for how to even start. How should I set my grow room up? Can a grow even happen in the conditions i've got to work with? Will I be able to grow enough to get an ounce or two out of it a month at least? Or am I just stupid and get a lot more. Don't want any to sell, just for me and hooking up a friend or two once in a while when they run dry, hehe.
One thing I'm real paranoid about is fire, so anyone with knowledge of growing in these conditions would be really helpful.
I'm just looking for a method to this that will give me enough for personal use and to be that buddy who always has a little extra when my friends go dry
So any advice anyone has is well appreciated, on the setup of the room, lighting which will be economical but extremely safe. Just what seeds to go for, looking for some kind stuff here.
Thanks a ton guys!kingwilson Reviewed by kingwilson on . Just need some starting off advice... Longtime enjoyer of this little hobby, but never grown. Hey, King, I'm still new to this---on my second grow---but I'll put in two cents...
Firstly, your space is fine. People have had stealth grows in file cabinets. There seems to be as many types of grow rooms as there are growers. The secret seems to be to maximize what you have to work with.
Can you paint the room white? Or can you coat every surface in mylar? Look at some of the grow rooms and you'll see that the good one's are all as bright as possible. No mirrors and no shiny side of the foil.
What to do for light? CFL's (compact fluorescent lights) are cheap and run cool. Buy a few and then grab some of the mini, clip on ballasts. Every hardware store has them.
It is possible to grow pot from it's vegatative state (it's first 30 to 60 days of 18 or 24 hrs. light each day), as well as it's flowering stage (12/12 for about 60 days) with CFL's only. You'll have NO worries of fire or heat build up. You can run one fan to control temps.
The trade-off with CFL's during the flowering stage---as opposed to HPS or others---is the yield. A 400w high pressure sodium light gives off a ton of heat and you'll need a spot for it's remote ballast that is outside your grow room. But there's no comparison as to how much more bud you'll get from the HPS over the CFL's.
"An ounce or two a month"? Again, depending on strains and growing method, you'll need anywhere from 90 to more than 120 days for each crop. Using CFL's only in a 4ftx5ftx4ft room gave me 2 ounces, or so, despite dozens of screw ups.
The same room will give me a pound (fingers crossed), with more attention and a 400w HPS light coupled with nine CFL's.
Sry, this went on...I'm sure the talented growers on this site will have much better advice, but that's just my 2cents thrown in.
Good luck and JUST DO IT!This is all just a goofy satire...sort of a National Lampoon thing and certainly only photos and ideas collected online.

king. good to be worried about fire and do everything with extra care.. with this kind of attitude you will be fine..
be creative and find a way to ventilate your room and keeo the air flowing.. this will keep your plants healthy and keep the temp down....
you should consider starting with a 400 watt on a light mover. you should be able to grow 5 quality plants in soil 1-4 ounces a plant. When you get a little bit of experience and a 1000 watt HPS light, you should be able to grow 4-8 ounces per plant with relatively little work.
Your turn around time will be about 90-120 days.
I agree with ski, just do it.. get a grow book that ed rosenthal writes... If you got the skills it takes very little time to become a succesful weed grower.
: )
good luck

weed wants to grow a little dirt a little water a little trial a little error your worry of fire might point you towrd floros because they run cooler the hps is the way to go point a fan directly at the light to help keep the temp down i am currently growing with floros and it works but it is verry sloooooooooww growin with minimal yeald and its time consumeing allways movein lights up
i hope this helps... good luck

400w HPS are very hot, you can always buy a 250w HPS. Its really all about space. Even with a 400w HPS if you don't have enough space you'll be hitting only a small percentage of the plants. If you had a 400w HPS coupled with 9 floros the heat would be insane unless you get some really efficient ventilation. Heat becomes a very big problem with HPS. What i'm saying is the strongest light will be the HPS. So you could get a 400w with a few floros or 250 with more floros around the sides. Up to you really.

Because it's a mobile home, I'd say go with CFL's or enviro lights, not HPS or MH.
If heat isnt a problem then ok, get MH and HPS, but be safe...
If you do get CFL's get blue spectrum for veg and redish spectrum for flowering...
You'll need at least 3 per plant of the highest wattage you can get... More would be better...
