Some thoughts :)
in my first grow i noticed no real smell when fans were operating in both vegetation and flowering while with the fans off (mainly did that when needed to work around the plants and did not want the fans to blow the wind on me) they stinked, especially during vegetation and with the fans off you would notice their smell easier.....
it may sound crazy but after harvesting and reverting the room in its previous state i noticed the walls that i initially painted flat white had turned yellow and that wasn't either humidity or nicotine....
the strain i was growing (Twilight) is not famous for its low odour while growing...as a matter of fact it is meant to be grown outdoors....
my final thought would be that the airborne particles emitted from the plants (what we humans and police dogs, smell lol), were forced in a way to stick on the walls of my grow room and not travel around....
i also think that this happened because i used 4-5 large computer case power fans operating all at variable speeds(usually highest possible) towards one direction....there was a window a bit open for fresh air at all times......
now the 'usual' window is open again with windows sills closed and blocked in such a way that allows a bit of air to pass through underneath but no light can be seen whatsoever, i have test it by various angles, distances and during the night as well (still in vegetation).....
the grow room did certainly smell, without any particular odour control and the use of working fans on 24/0 basis i managed to detain the smell only to this room and not let it escape on the outside...
now i've got this little toy to handle odours
http://www.beta-airshop.co.uk/details/vort35_70.htm
haven't used it yet but i plan to have it in the same room with my plants at a distance of 3 meters away from the plants operating at 1st speed....the model i have is the 70 one and the room where plants are has a total space of 45m3
from some research that i've done over the internet i can conclude to this....
theoretically, operating at 1st speed at 24/0 basis this type of ozone generator should be able to handle all odours, eliminating them or capturing them.......
otherwise i will need LOTS of parfumed burning sticks&candles, plenty of nerve, good neighbours (propably&hopefully students) and try to setup the whole room using and a couple extractor fans with carbon filters attached for next grow....
however, if the experiment works out good and the smell remains in there with only minimal un-noticable smell outside the room, then this would really be great as a simple device that when being used in a 'calculated' manner would 'jump' over the time consuming procedure of setting up carbon filters on extractors etc.
i am really going to grow into 30 sqft, that's half the space of this room using 2x400watts & 1x600watt of hps, propably creating the perfect SOG with 2 NFT boards (12sqft that) along with 2lt plastic bottles filled with a seed each....my past grow has given me around 200 seeds (out of which one among you will receive hopefully 20 of them)...now, i wonder how many females i would get out of 100 feminised seeds.....these seeds come from hermie plant....they were female in the beginning and turned hermie late in flowering and gave me these seeds....i never expected that a hermie plant would make me so happy, many growers here believe that these seeds are feminised as well....
the future will tell
take care you all and have fun

PS. twilight is indica dom, outdoors, streches a lot during flowering, flowering time is 60 days, bumper harvest and good high that is more of couchlock type...i should flower when plants are at which node? 3rd node or fourth?
PS2. on the nft trays i am thinking to grow Chronic from serious seeds, 24 plants there as well, 10-12 females
PS4...can you estimate the max possible yield out of a grow room like this? Chronic will be grown to a taller height from the rest and therefore i estimate that could yield 2-3 pounds under 600watts with 50watt/sqft grown in hydro
PS5...of course i will have to buy a proper CO2 injector with timer and everything needed to complete the grow with minimal stress to the plants...
PS6...good night everyonenewgroweroldsmoker Reviewed by newgroweroldsmoker on . I have tried both cheap and expensive gadgets for odor control.
WHen growing MJ, terpene is produced and most of these devices simply cannot handle the levels produced to make a real impact in neutralizing it.
I stick with the charcoal.
It DOES work

No.
The terpene needs to be forced thru the charcoal to allow the carbon to trap the molecules.
Simply having the terpene sit amongst charcoal wont alter the sell at all.

ok here's how the ''toy'' i bought works......it has two active filters (one carbon and one electrostatic)
the air is sucked and passes first through the carbon filter, then it proceeds and passes through the sencond filter, the electrostatic one....
plus there is an ioniser in there that produces negative ions as well.....
so far so good, i am in vegetation and i have noticed that the plants have started emitting their vegetation smell but they're still young and thus the smell is un-noticed yet..
i've added loads of water solution with yeast and loads of sugar to produce co2...the smell of the yeast is covering up everything so far and it smells really good, let's say my house smells like a bakery
i don't think that i will encounter any smell problems at all as even when in flowering the strains i've got they smell like kerosene (chrystal) and mango (papaya)....
hardon, hey man hanx for your input....as i live in a rented house i can't really make many modifications to my grow room.....otherwise if things get too difficult smellwise i will be forced then to improvise and get the extractor with the carbon filter attached to it.....
it's just getting too damn complicated and i am trying to get the max out of the process by using common every day solutions...
i plan to buy a home grow chamber 4x4x7ft and use there a big extractor fan with a big carbon filter attached to it and a couple cool tubes for my lights....no more DIY stuff for me, i've had enough things done so far and it's been getting annoying lately....
i suppose peace of mind comes first and when i finish this grow i will definately buy all these stuff......
i gave it a thought and even though i want to grow more and more, certain limitations that i face do not allow me to do so....
so i guess i'd better try and grow let's say a couple of pounds of bud every 3 months or so as this is the safest, to reach, yield.....
cannabis growing 'business' is deep under my skin and i feel happier now that i've decided what is my goal, after all it is not bad if i manage to grow 8-10 pounds of bud every year(4grows)
