I usually keep them on bics because i didnt even realize that they were child safety devices...I shall try getting it off my current favorite lighter in a moment.

Oh damn i know what your talking about, ya every lighter i end up with tends to be de-childproofed.

I noticed the child-proofing before but it never made it any harder for me. Gonna take the metal off my bic now just to see if it really does make a difference. I'm curious...
A friend in need is a friend indeed.

Does it seem to anybody else like lighters got bulkier when they added this child 'saftey' mechanism? I remember them being somewhat smaller several years ago. They don't sell the lighters you can tweak and cause to exlpode around here anymore either.

I hate those things too

whats the point in 'child-proofing' a lighter? darwins theory of evolution works
the kid who burns too many nose hairs ends up looking like michael jackson
i mean come on, what happened to the good old days when parents let their kids learn on their own? Jeeeeeez my mom was happy when i stuck a fork in the outlet...course she got really pissed when i did it again =\

Buy one those miniature screwdriver sets from the dollar store. They come in handy for popping off the child-proof part of the lighter, and also, cleaning bowls and scraping resin.

I think it's only the bics, because i bought a ligter at some fair with a pot leaf on it and the words "natures way of staying high" and it didn't have a child saftey thing.
