Bottom Leaves Sick, Please Help, Expert Advice Please

Please help with my plants, they have gotten sick on me about 5 days ago.

The leaves are turning brown from the bottom up, 2 of my plants have lost the first and second set of leaves (from the bottom up). I did some research and thought I was low on P, so I gave them some epson salt and a little bone meal to bump the P. This is the only nuts I have given the plants for they are only 18 days old.

    Here are some specifics:

Soil: 1/2 Scotts Potting Soil .08 .12.08 Nut Levels, 1/4 Perlite, 1/4 Sand
    Age: 18 Days Old
Light: 400 Watt MH Light On 18/6 Cycle and about 18" above plant Tops
    Light: 2 - 80 Watt Flour. Light Fixtures (2x40 4 Foot Long) 18/6 Also
Fans: 2 Fans One On Them, Other Oscolating to move are around
Nuts: No nuts until bone meal and epson salt to boost P

I gave them the bone meal and epson salt about 3 days ago and it has not helped yet. The leave stems are a little purple, not sure if it is the strain or nut problem. The pictures posted are 4 of the leaves and one of the soil I am using.

Any help is appricated, please only give help if you are familiar with this problem. Thanks

I've got the same problem except not as bad as yours...yet. Look at the "Yellow spots and turning brown" post for pics. I was told it was a nitrogen deficiency but that it could also be a pH problem. I had this on one plant last grow and the epsom foliar feed stopped it in it's tracks. Not this time though and I've done everything exactly the same EXCEPT...first grow I gave them fert 12 days into growth plus some blood meal sprinkled on the surface. TOTALLY AGAINST WHAT EVERYONE SAYS TO DO!! And those plants were waaayyyy further along and healthier than these. What else can a person think but that not feeding fast growing plants isn't the right thing to do. They need food. I know that ruffles feathers, but prove to me that it's wrong based on what I'm seeing here. Plus I have way more light!

Here's pics of the first grow with lots of food and the second going by what everyone says...DON'T FEED THEM WHEN THEY'RE SO YOUNG!!!

First pic is of the second grow. No fert till today the 22 day. In a 3 gallon container. Everything done according to what so many people suggest.

Second pic is of the two I planted in the same container for my first grow in a 2 gallon container. Yes there's two of them in there but you can see that they're waaay taller and healthier. All I heard was that they were going to die an early death big time and be root bound to no end. Total BS. I wish I had four plants like these right now!!

Now where's my blood meal and Miracle Grow!! I combined these to grow the first which again is a total no no. Go figure.

By the way. Both pics are taken on the same day of growth for each grow. 22nd day. And the pic of the 2nd grow plant is the tallest most robust plant I have. All others are considerably smaller. So really the difference is even more pronounced between the 'no food' and the 'give 'em food' concept.

Also I'm not really trying to hammer the 'experts'. Just to suggest that what is "always right" might not be all the time. Especially if you're on top of potential 'problems'. Or at least try to be.

    Johnnyrocket...

You have probably killed your plants.

That is the only stuff in the world worse than Miracle Grow.

Never ever ever feed with time released nutes.......never.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

As to what you can do?

    Flush?

No....it will continue to release the nutes.

The only thing I can do is tell you what I would do if I were you....

Scrape as much top soil off as you can. Get rid of the soil until you scrape roots. Even then some...when you see roots, throw Schultz Rooting Hormone Powder all over the top soil.

    Remove plant from container.

Scrape as much soil as you can from the sides....and bottoms. As the roots appear, dust them with Schultz Rooting Powder and keep working. You cant over do it with the rooting hormones...apply to every root you come across.

Get as much dirt off the root as you can...do not penetrate too far into the root ball, but...you need to get the dirt off that you can.

Transplant into new soil and new container. fill with clean fresh WET medium.

This can be similar to open heart surgery. There is a great chance your plant will die in this procedure.

You may want to wait and get some other advice......but the clock is against you.

Wait to see if someone offers a better prognosis and advice....

Sorry but time released nutes are the death knell to these plants.

Best of luck to you johnnyrocket .....

You won't be singing such happy tunes come flower time

As for your nuting them so young.....

Remember everytime you nute, some nutes remain in the soil. You are simply building up for nute lockup in the future.

You give these plants what they need...when they need it. Not what they WANT.

Fact is, these plants do not need nutes at 12 days in soil grow.

Don't be suprised if you get some serious nute imbalances as time wears on.

The advice you get from some people here is good, others not so good.

    Yes, you must judge.

    Good luck.

    Harddon,

I think you are right on the money with this one, I just transplanted them to these containers a week ago and that is when they were put into that soil. 2 days after that is when the problem started. I am very good at transplanting and can probably get most of the dirt out. I hope I have time to get it done before leaving for Jamacia, but I should I don't want them to dye. What soils would you recomend, like a promix or something as long as it doesn't have the time release right.

Thanks for the help, that is why I took a picture of the soil bag, thought it might be a problem.

I would use PRO MIX by choice....but at this point anything but MG would do.

Local nurseries always have the good stuff......hardware stores have the junk.

When and where are you going to Jamaica?

I am ready to go again.......maybe we could hook up.

I like to stay at Royal Plantation, Ocho Rios....

    Pricey but nicey

I am flying out on friday, can't wait, I have never been there before, I am there for 5 days only, but it is a good start. We will be over in Nagril. I remember you were over there not that long ago, You made a drip system to keep your plants watered while you were away didn't you?

Yes johnny i did, but there is no way i can put that together again in 2 days.

You might want to consider the wick system....

Go to Home Depot and buy those large outdoor candle wicks they use for those burning oil canisters.

bury one end deep into the soil and place the other one in a closed off 2 litre bottle of water.

Make sure the wick is saturated first and keep the water container higher than the soil.

This might work....but its the only idea i can offer on such short notice.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Negril is awesum...you will luv it.

For your smoke just ask anyone for some ganja.

    Even the taxi driver.

Jamaicans are some of the friendliest people on earth.

You will have more peeps ask you if you need anything...weed, coke, x, all shit you can handle.

Just remember you are only there 5 days.....dont go crazy and buy a months worth like I do all the time.

Do NOT try and bring any weed back either. Almost all ICE branches at airports have out the doggy waiting you on return from Jamaica.

A few seeds up your ass ought to do you well but you will prolly get pure sativa...

Next month I have offices opening in Negril, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios....so maybe next time we can hook up

Good luck and have fun dude......smoke all you can all the time
