HELP NEEDED!!! caught... again.....

please take the time to read because i know that you people can help me in many different ways! and if any of you wanted to know im 16.

where to start.... well 6 months ago or so my parents found out i smoke after me being narked on. i tried to talk to my dad about it, but thats where i need help. he had a packet handy he got from my school about why weed is bad, and i had barely any way to defend myself because it was full of info i had was not in the position to be able to prove wrong.

This time, yesturday night, i was caught with a friend in my basement. he didnt see us doing it because i heard him in time so i tried to cover it up by taking out cake from the fridge, but surprizingly my dad had already smelt it from upstairs, thinking something was burning. he goes into the furnace room to find my friend who he was not notified about being there. after no time at all he found a can of pop with ash on it, and so he knew something was inside. all he wanted to know was what it was and my friend said it was a cigar, so he gave him the box of phillies. my dad bought it, but after just a little bit of talking i found out that my dad was even more mad than if it was weed, so i told him the truth. thats when our convo started up again.

so, this time i talk to him i really try to defend weed, cuz now he knows im always lying to him, and i explained to him that i had to lie, it wouldnt work any other way. he wants me to stop because of the risk of getting caught; hes really REALLY is afraid of me getting caught by police. his 2nd subject of concern is my health. i tried explaining to him about how weed doesnt cause anything like emphasema or lung cancer, but that wasnt what he was complaining about. he and his trusty packet were saying that prolonged use can cause short term memory loss, violence, panic attacks, difficulty thinking of words or things like that.... it also said that weed has 3-4 times more tar than ciggs... i said that it doesnt matter because the tar doesnt inflict as much damage as squares anyways, but he stuck to the packet.

i dont know what to say to him anymore... i mean waht the hell can i say to him about the risk of getting caught and its crazy concequences? i tell him that i do weed because i think it should be legal, i tell him it should be legal like alcohol, but he for some reason just thinks its much worse.

he says weed will destroy my body and health after i get totally hooked onto it. he says it will ruin my life when it comes to a job and other things, i telll him that i know what im doing with my life and i have self control.

do you guys think theres anything i can do? please give me any ideas you have. my dads being pretty cool about this, he probably didnt even tell my mom yet or my sister. but this is also a sign that hes giving up, and that adds an entire load of disappointment on his part. fragile times this is.

Get your dad to smoke with you if you can hehe I know. but you never know he might change his mind and jest tell you to be careful.

make your own packet and have him read it if he wont believe you. just print some stuff off the net.

i dunno man. usually parents are ALWAYS right. but here what i think: u just try to not give him reason but not to prove your right. just let it as it is. maybe tell him you like it, and that all those diseases are due to abuse. just like alcohol. so i guess u tell him u wont smoke during school, only weekends or whatever just so he can chill a bit. after few months hell just be used to the fact u smoke weed and maybe hell shut up.

or u can always search for articles proving the benefits of marijuana use. and if weed has more tar u dont care coz u dont smoke 25 joints a day.

anyway i guess thats it man, if hes really closed minded and all i guess u cant argue. so let it as it is...

as a couple of people have said, you need to get your dad to understand about cannabis and the difference between Soft recreational drugs ie: cannabis and Hard unsociable drugs ie: Cocain/Heroin etc...
get him to sit down with you at your pc and show him some of the information that is available on various websites about cannabis (well chosen in advance)
if your dad has an ounce (no pun intended) of respect for you he will sit down and atleast listen to your side of the argument.
failing that......... move out and get your own apartment then he wont know what you do.
